Haters gonna hate

Mad when black people have a negative image.
Mad when black people have a positive image.
Nope. Simply mad when those that complain about being excluded because of their race, go ahead and turn around and exclude others based on their race. It is the very definition of hypocrisy. We solve nothing by separating ourselves from others.

Nothing to do with hate. Actually it has a lot more to do with love of other human beings no matter their race.

Your whole position is false. You created it to justify your hatred.

The base for this event is to promote a needed positive image in the black community. This has nothing to do with exclusion.

You know this, but just the very thought of another group trying to do better burns your soul. Even if it has no effect on you at all.

I think the organizers of this black students only graduation ceremony are failing to see the bigger picture. By singling themselves out they are essentially saying that they deserve special recognition for the achievement of graduating university. That their experience was somehow more challenging than what Caucasian, Asian or Indian students faced. In fact what they are doing is disrespecting themselves and are actually fighting against inclusiveness and true equality.

Exactly.

If people don't want to be singled out and excluded, then don't do yourself.

Then again the media is a big part of it sticking their nose into things, or awarding someone a special prize.

For example, in sports the first black guy to play any sport is always awarded and singled out as some kind of superman. But when was the last time you saw an Asian, Indian or Latino athlete get recognized in the same way? Never.

It's a weird thing, but since I'm not Black I guess I won't get it. But if I was an athlete and someone wanted to award me a special prize for becoming the first black guy, I would be like "So what? You want to give me an award like I'm a retard and I now should feel special being with white guys?"

Sounds patronizing to me, but I guess many minorities love the recognition.

Will they hold up a Pantone colour chart to determine if your tan is dark enough for entry?

I personally see no problem with this. If it is run by students and funded by students then it is not an act of racism. In fact its the opposite. As the article states it "will give about 80 black graduates a chance to celebrate the accomplishment of overcoming systemic barriers unique to racialized groups seeking higher education."

In my eyes this would be the same as attending your prom ( only graduates can attend), graduation carnival (again only grade 12's) , Spring formal ( grade 11 & 12 only) and many other school events single out groups for events. Football games and major school games everybody attends. This is just another one of those things. They are celebrating the support they have given to each other and are focused on the strength of the black community.

I do agree that if is was a white group that asked for this it would definitely be considered an act of racism and would cause an uproar. The average high school dropout rate among black students in Toronto is 40% . I am not sure if that is still accurate now but in a test from 2013 that is what the results were. I am aware that this is not the college dropout rate but I have looked and have not found anything except for a higher percentage of dropouts among males instead of females in universities.

K Douglas I think they are just trying to celebrate, I don't think they are deliberately trying to say they are better than anyone. Some people can be in college for years because either they learn slower than others or need special assistance. It doesn't appear that the university or media is treating this as an act of superiority and I don't think we should either. In reality its a bunch of college kids celebrating their graduation... Who are we to tell them they cant do that?

Typical idiotic liberal retort. The hatred claim.

Now see if you can explain why dividing ourselves into groups based on race is a good thing. Also why someone needs special recognition because of their skin color?

I hope all of these kids do well. Do you think they shouldn't for some reason?

This is a Black Graduation CELEBRATION, not a convocation graduation.

Into the article, I saw this posted: https://www.facebook.com/events/1882115535394698/
"This event will include students from all three campuses Scarborough, St. George and Mississauga. If you are black identified student graduating in 2017 this event is for you!"

WTF???? A black identified student???? So if you wake up feeling just a little black it's ok to go? Identify my ass ..........

Yes, ORGANIZED by students, FUNDED by the university. However how much can a celebration for 80 people really cost. It cant be that much and besides its a celebration. I am pretty sure the university will organize something to help come up with the money to fund the event. I stand by my original post. Who are we to tell them they cant celebrate graduating? Especially considering the rates of drop outs... Seriously people... lighten up. Issues are only made big issues when people focus on it.

The article says it is funded by the university.

IMO, this event perpetuates racism in a way whitey can't even hope to.

In other words it is a celebration of them managing to
not drop out. A rather unusual sense of accomplishment
that must be unique to them.

I would be celebrating their celebration were I a
racist who view blacks as an intellectually inferior
people.

It is hatred. You just disguise your hate with alt-right straw man arguments.

You create a fake/unrelated argument to remove the guilt of not liking this.

The basic premise of this event is to promote education for black people and acknowledge the unique difficulties.

Now you come with a fake argument to remove your guilt for hating the event.

And if you actually read the article, you would have found all the answers to your questions. But we all know you are not really looking for answers. You just want justification for hate.

There are people on this forum who accuse blacks of celebrating thugs, hip hop artists and athletes.

Here is a group of blacks who want to celebrate the hard work both financial and academic that they achieved. What's wrong with that especially since race based activities is nothing new in universities. I remember walking through the university center in September of each year and seeing the various race clubs promoting their clubs.
