That's how I saw his comment, as a joke. At the same time, It's hard to tell if and when someone's being sarcastic or joking when it's on in a forum like this or over text, especially when you don't know them. I've experienced it on both ends.
Regardless of what she does for a living, her action was wrong. I doubt she saw him him or anyone that looked like him take her phone. It looks like her predjudice just took over the moment she spotted a black guy with a Iphone. What's even worse than that is how people around tend to react to what people like her do. The kid all of a sudden was put in a spot where he had to defend or explain himself, who knows how bad things could have gone if his father wasn't there and some random cop was at the hotel lobby.
