There's a link below to a National Post article by Kelly McParland.
Evidently, the band made it clear that the celebrity status of the drummer would not be discussed. McParland says it sent Billy into a "deep snit."
Billy Bob wasn't stoned, as was my first impression when I started viewing the video, he was pissed off. That may be hard for us to empathize with, because we don't care if he has two jobs, but he evidently does.
Its called artistic temperament. When you write, star, and direct an academy award winning film like Sling Blade, you are entitled to the appellation "artist."
If you ever meet director, Ron Howard, and start having a chat with him, they say you will find him the most charming man imaginable. Just please stay on topic, and current. He is one of the world's preeminent directors. So be warned, that if you mention how much you admire his work as Opie, and Richie Cunningham, he will turn his back on you and walk away.
I met another artist, (an actual painter) who used to be a Hollywood actor. He had (or pretended to have) the same feelings, as many of these genre-crossing artists do. He said "This is what I'm doing now, and my old life has no further relevance. Come see my shows for the work, and not because of the work that I used to do. This guy however, sent out his invitations, posed with his picture in front of one of his canvases, a total disconnect from normal art-show invitation convention, so I suspect he was partly full of shit.
Bill Bob is serious.
By the way. I know what its like to be pissed off on a radio show.
As a young Infantry Reserves Officer, back about a million years ago, I once did a little sit-down, CBC radio interview. A friendly little interview I was told, on some specific, friendly little, public relations topic. I was given permission from Ottawa to proceed.
However, a totally unrelated hot topic in the media at the time, was women in combat roles in the CAF. I was under orders not to discuss it.
We agreed that discussion along those lines was off-limits to me, outside of my pay grade, totally unrelated to the subject I was invited to talk about, and would land me in deep shit.
So, the guy starts off, "Don't be nervous... 1 - 2 - 3... So, Lieutenant Robinto. What about women in Combat roles?"
Had I been a free agent, I'd have walked.
Billy Bob should have too, and just made it clear that he was pissed off, and why, instead of being passive aggressive.
Oh and by the way, the band has to "put up with him" because he is the main song writer, and the driving creative force.
Billy Bob Thornton makes an ass of himself on CBC

Since we're often critical of the CBC, it's only just that we sympathize with the Corp when it deserves it.
Jian Ghomeshi deserved it this morning when he attempted to interview Billy Bob Thornton about his band, The Boxmasters, on CBC radio.
Unfortunately, Ghomeshi upset Billy Bob when he committed the cardinal sin of mentioning that Billy Bob happens to also be an actor. About 100% of the listening audience already knew this, but it drove Billy Bob into a deep snit. Apparently he feels it undermines the integrity of his love for music by suggesting he might also be good at something else. Only in Billybobland would it be an insult to suggest someone was multi-talented.
Billy Bob reacted to the transgression by doing his best impression of Joaquin Phoenix on David Letterman: sullen, rude, monosyllabic, claiming not to understand such complex questions as "How long have you been playing together?"
Rather than invite him to take his ego and get off the show, Ghomeshi politely sought to identify the reason for the snit, eventually discovering that Billy Bob had informed the producer he didn't want to talk about "that shit" (ie his acting).
CBC promises a podcast of the interview here, though it hadn't been posted yet when I checked. Probably because the techies are still too busy cackling.
