While he's often right, I find that he's rarely if ever funny. Matter of taste, I suppose. Some people find shooting fish in a barrel hilarious. I don't.
Maher goes for the low-hanging-fruit easy pickings every time. Religulous is a great example. He spends the entire movie countering ignorant hillbilly bible literalist. Motherfucker wouldn't last 2 minutes against a Jesuit scholar.
I used to like him alot, I found the daily show and colbert report to not be hard hitting enough. After a year of watching Maher, he is too cynical even for me. I really like john Oliver's show, he has a bit more of a bite on him that stewart and colbert but manages to keep things very funny.
He mentions Bush at the end, and looking at the source, turns out this clip is from 2009.

Your right!! Maybe not that funny, but everything he was expressing is unfortunately the truth. And he didn't even bother mentioning that its probably one of the most racist of countries in the world.
The only reason why they think their No 1 is because of their military mite. Now that is really sad. While other progressive countries are trying to progress, they are still living in the past.
I actually don't find him all that funny either, but I do enjoy watching his show. I don't always agree with him -- actually I strongly disagree with him at times -- but he makes good points, admits when someone else has a point even if it's a contrary opinion, and is a great debater on modern issues. And he somehow has the patience to deal with the pigheaded stubbornness of his guests who refuse to admit fault in their arguments even after Maher has destroyed them.
I'll take Maher's in-your-face smugness to the more covert self-righteousness of politicians and correspondents any day.

You are so right. I wish I lived in the land of the free. I would really enjoy paying for health care, and not being able to gamble offshore.
That clip was posted in 2009, but I think it's from 2007 or so. Something said about 9-11 and 6 years, plus he seems to indicate Bush is still in office.
I think if you look closely, that it's Americans criticizing their own country in those videos.

Bill Maher is articulate and accurate but he delivers his message in such a condescending manner that no one wants to hear it.
Here's right about one item, Ronald Reagan did not bring about the fall of the Berlin Wall. East Germans were rallying for more freedoms long before he delivered his " Mr Gorbachev tear down this wall" speech. And the mass migrations from Czechoslovakia into Austria greased the wheels of Soviet collapse.

Watch as Maher lasts all of 2 minutes on Craig Ferguson's show. Maher crosses a line with Ferguson, and Ferguson just pulls the plug and goes to a commercial. Thanks for coming out.
Correct on both counts.
I have several "off the boat" Russian friends and colleagues. Whenever I ask them about Rompin Ronnie Reagan "bringing down communism" in the former Soviet Union I get one of two responses:
1. Are you fucking stupid
2. Reagan and the USA had nothing to do with it. It was an internal Russian thing.
