Recently came across a discussion with Sam Harris (the neuroscientist) about Elon and their predictions about covid back in 2020. The conclusion was their friendship ended because they had a bet. Elon bet there would only be 35,000 covid cases in the USA. Harris said a lot more. Weeks later after 35,000 deaths (and 600,000 cases) Harris texted Elon "is (35,000 deaths + 600,000 cases) > 35,000 cases?"
Musk never responded to his text. Later Elon took to social media started calling Harris an idiot and mentally ill.
BTW Fauci claimed 200k would die. I think the CDC director said 400k but that's from memory.

There were 1.22m deaths from covid (according to US CDC if you check it today) and it become for a while the 3rd leading cause of death in usa. If you calculate excess mortality many thought it was closer to 1.5m. A PNAS (Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences, peer reviewed journal) article (Paglino et al 2024) from a year ago suggests excess mortality under counted the number of covid related deaths. One element of suspicion is the corresponding rise in natural causes deaths that rose and sank with the covid nunbers.
Here's a figure from us census bureau that looked at excess mortality in USA and you see the typical range year by year and then 2020 just bursts way over what is considered the normal fluctuations.

It's debatable that twenty-olds in the military should have been mandated to take the vaccine. The same thing goes for promoting the COVID vaccine be given to children.
Debatable?...These groups represented a zero risk group. We knew that early on. It's a crime that they were mandated to get vaccinated.

It was easy to say in 2021.
Nope. It was easy to say by the end of 2022 when study found the vaccine slowed down hospitalization dramatically.

Because the vaccine did not prevent to catch it was categorized as a failure by the pseudo scientist imbecile...

These are your opinions. Perhaps you were caught up in the vaccine euphoria and ensuing misinformation in early 2021.

It was well-documented within the first twelve months that certain groups with comorbidities were at risk for dangerous cases that required hospitalization. This was not young people. Well over 95% of the population would catch the virus, be in discomfort, recover and have natural immunity.

The at-risk category is also how they determined the priority order for vaccination in early 2021. If the hospitalization/death risk was random, you would vaccinate randomly or skew vaccination toward the youth.

It was also known this type of virus' ability to mutate and move between species would mean it would circulate indefinitely. When the virus was introduced, some people but certainly not all seemed confused that they would still have to cope with COVID after being vaccinated. Some of us on social media who were keeping an open mind were trying to educate people that COVID would not be eradicated but rather it would move through our populations like the flu.

I am not arguing the vaccine was a failure.

The people who were putting out ridiculous numbers far after the numbers showed they were just being ridiculous (like Elon) were the ones who infuriated me.
There was a lot of uncertainty in the numbers and some people paid attention and tried to be plausible while also updating their thoughts as more info came in, but lots of people were just spouting bullshit. (Many continue to do so to this day.)

This is the study he is referring to.
And this is the BMJ expression of concern about the study.
