With all the music posts going on, here's another one. Who do you think has the best singing voice, male and female. Divorce it from music, groups or songs you love, just plain and simple singing ability.

Female: Annie Lennox. altho I despise every thing she's ever produced, mygod that woman can sing.

Male: Aaron Neville, Morissey or Caetano Veloso. could sing telephone books and would be angelic.

My Inspiration & Life Savior

Tori Amos

Her voice is breath-takingly beautiful with her studio work (CD's) but this woman's voice live is 10 times better. Her voice is so very angelic that you are left just starring at her mesmerized and captivated by every word that comes out from her lips. I've seen quite a few concerts but I have never heard an artist before sound beyond perfect live.

If anyone is interested or doubt what I am saying she released last month her first Live In Concert DVD called Welcome To Sunny Florida which was her second last concert show in Fort Lauderdale from her 2002 Scarlet's Walk Tour where she was on stage for all 158 shows for over 2 hours & 15 minutes. After 8 CD's (albums) since 1992 and countless singles, be-sides and covers she has NEVER done the same setlist twice. She writes her setlist 10 minutes before she goes on stage. I could really go on and on about this woman prodigy but I don't want to drive all of you mad.

If you want to know more about her the best 2 sites are.

1. The Dent (which is done by a fan and friend of Tori's and is an up to date information site.)
www.thedent.com

2. Here In My Head (which is named after one of her songs and also is done by a fan. This site is the ultimate because it has tons of live MP3's, live videos, it has everything!
www.hereinmyhead.com

If you want to know more about the charity RAINN (Rape Abuse Incest National Network ~ 1-800-656-HOPE) that Tori founded 10 years ago (In 1994) because of the overwhelming amount of women and men that came to the shows with letters, stories and lots of pain and tears about their rape and abuse that she realized that she was not well enough equipt to help these people (although her music is so theraputic) that she founded RAINN and her record company does not contribute any money, nor is it government funded. All the funds come from her fans, her own money and many celebrities.
www.rainn.org

I am still here and alive today because of the impact this woman's music and presence has had on me since I started listening to her music back in 1992. Her fans have such a true and real love and devotion for her that we are a family, we are Toriphilies and her fan base following is bigger then The Greatful Dead ever had.

All the best,
Annessa

Jazz has the best vocalists period.

I think the best voices today are into jazz right now.
Just a few classics are:

Laura Fygi, used to be lead singer with Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66, she sang lead in their hit "Mas Que Nada."
Joni Mitchell
Linda Ronstadt
Stacey Kent
Jane Monheit, incredible voice in her first couple albums, her "Waters of March" is the best version ever!
Tierney Sutton
Janis Siegel, from the Manhattan Transfer.
Diana Krall

Nat King Cole
Billy Eckstine
Marvin Gaye
Johnny Hartman
Joe Williams, especially when with Count Basie.
Sinatra
Tony Bennet & k.d. lang duo album
