Last May I had the chance to go to Machu Picchu
Arrived Lima, flew to Cuzco, drove to sacred valley for 3 days staying at a wonderful hotel http://www.libertador.com.pe/en/luxury-collection/tambo-del-inka-hotel/general-information/
toured the area
took train directly from hotel to Aguas Calientes and up to Machu Picchu. The site was far bigger then I had imagined. Not a lot of people so it felt somewhat empty. It was one of the most moving experiences
in travel that I have ever had. Had a chance to climb the mountain you see in the background
Stayed overnight in the only hotel at the site so we could visit the site 1st in am for sunrise. http://www.sanctuarylodgehotel.com/web/omac/machu_picchu.jsp
By the way--it is an all inclusive hotel because there is NO where else to go. No ambient light so the stars where spectacular.
next went to Cuzco for 2 days.. wonderful city. Every sunday there is a parade for a couple of hours in the central square...every sunday. The square is visible in the link
stayed at a converted monastery http://www.monasteriohotel.com/web/ocus/hotel_monasterio.jsp
as a kid I remember reading National Geographic about MP and to see it was amazing.
When you visit the site it is somewhat hidden , you walk along a trail and through a ruin, then suddenly the entire site suddenly appears. Without a word of lying, I saw people arriving
at this spot who started to cry.
