After I moved out on the SO, stage one of the big D, I decided to forego the cable offerings of our esteemed big providers in Rogers and Bell. Screw them I say! If they let me pick a strictly sports package with HBO I would be happy but we all know how that goes. Anyway, I started experimenting with streaming. This is the way to go guys. I can find anything, stream live sports, particularly a shit load of Euro soccer and most importantly the Basketball playoffs. Quality is solid for the most part and I suspect if I had a stronger processor it would be better since my laptop has been around since Christ was a cowboy! Step two is a small antenna since I live in direct line of site to the CN Tower the signal will be solid. Stay tuned for more reports.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. In my hunt to cure the boredom of the day, since I'm on vacation doing sweet f-all, lol, I found the best show ever written for television...the Wire. I've watched the whole series through about 5-6 times so far and each time I pick up on subtleties I previously missed. I have yet to see character development along the lines of Omar, Bubbles, McNulty, Carter and hell even Bodie.

For those of you not familiar, the Wire takes place in Baltimore, created and written by former B-More Sun writer David Simon. The general plot concerns the drug trade of Baltimore and the war with the police and other crews. It also takes an in-depth look at the damage caused to the people, the scheming politicians, the importation of goods at the docks, the school system and finally in season 5 the effect on the press.

If anyone is looking for something interesting to watch given the shite the networks push on us these days I strongly suggest you check the Wire out. Do yourself a favour, you can thank me later!

I was late getting into The Wire also. Just watched the whole series 2 years ago. Very good show, excellent writing, and acting. I really liked how they tied up evreyones story in the finale.

A couple years ago, I was deciding whether to watch this series or Breaking Bad (another great series). Went with Breaking Bad. Still haven't had a chance to get into The Wire.

The Walking Dead is sure winner. Lots of people refuse to watch because of zombie theme. I tell them to watch the first 2 episodes of the series, then they can decide to continue or not. So far all are hooked.

Another series is the Battlestar Galactica reboot.

Among shows airing now, my favorite is probably Sirens, on Comedy Network, Thursday nights at 10:30. It's a sitcom about Chicago paramedics, co-produced by Denis Leary.

Hey Iceman, you left out Bunk. I would recommend Ray Donovan, it's good. It's been renewed for a second season.

HA! I did leave out Bunk and I am now hanging my head in shame. I don't know how I missed him considering prior to my OP I just watched the episode where he picked up some woman at the bar and she called McNulty in the middle of the night to come get him because Bunk was setting off her smoke detector trying to burn his clothes, while loaded, so there would be no trace evidence for his wife to find, lol.

lots of good shows suggested here are some that weren't mentioned

for british shows I would suggest downton abbey(drama with most chick appeal), dr who(for geeks), the new Sherlock(most broad appeal)

modern family is light and funny

American horror each season is a standalone story similar casts but different settings and characters s3 and s1 are best

Spartacus is good I liked the prequel season the best

bates motel was a pleasant surprise

Mad Men is the best show on television right now.

Get outta here with Walking Dead. If you like things like The Wire and Breaking Bad, you should see WD as an insult to your intelligence. It is fucking garbage.

I tried watching the Walking Dead....made it through season 1 and about 4 episodes of season 2. I found it quite boring, the writing is sub-par and overall it just didn't do it for me. It's disappointing since I am a fan of zombie culture however the potential of this show is lost on the producers. I really can't understand why it is so popular.
