I think the LCD flat screens look better overall .... but they do lag in response time a bit and the blacks aren't as good as plasma.

Doesn't the second part of your sentence contradict the first?

Plasma wise I think the Pioneer is the best. My friend has the 50" and with HD the picture is quite amazing. When watching sports the Pioneer is very fast much faster then LCD's and the color is very very deep, black is a deep black.

Me myself is sticking with a Sony 46 1080p LCD. I've had a trinitron now for 14 years and it's still going strong. I think the differences are so small in pic quality between the top 3 brands so the reason I'm sticking with Sony is because the easy to use menu's and reliabilty. IMO

Eh?
I am leaning towards the Pioneer PDP-507XD - I can get it for under $1500.

Stay away from Insigia, many issues and that thing has no inputs.
The Visios' get good to great reviews in Home Theatre mag,
But the Pioneer would be a great deal.

for a 42 inch size, you don't need HD ...

ED gives you the same pic.........

put them side to side and see..........

get the ED's at 42 inches before they all sell out.

cheers.

the 42" viso claims 1080i and 780p and it says HD when using hdmi imputs or digital channels on tuner and it was under $900
other types of inputs comp, base band etc. had reduced specs

Agreed.
Sharp and Panasonic seem to be the best in this field.
I would opt for LCD over plasma, personal choice I guess...would not hurt to have 1080p.

I'm looking into getting a pioneer plasma too. Where are you getting a 50" pioneer for $1500? Isn't the PDP-507XD a British model and only works in England ,since it's PAL.

LOL dude, what are you smoking? ED is only 780p and IMO NOT HD...HD is 1080i. If you can't see the difference all the better for you but personally, I see a MAJOR difference....

For eg: I recently acquired an HD PVR. During setup it asks you if you want 1080i or 780p and some others. I tried 780p first and thought it was pretty good. Then I set it up to 1080i and it was the difference between night and day. For eg: during the playoffs at 780p I watched a bit of a game. Then I switched it to 1080i and at that resolution you could see the friggin athletic knit holes in the player's jersey's.

If you don't care about that kind of clarity, then by all means purchase something that can only display 780p......

A friend of mine told me about this place in Richmond Hill..I was just sent the description and specs - I'm scheduled to check it out tomorrow. I will double check if this only works in UK.
Thanks for the info.

Oh shit, be careful. Make sure this place in richmond hill isn't a grey market seller. Grey market sellers are retailers who import the products on their own and the manufacturer's warranty doesn't apply. I'd check the mfr's website to make sure they're an authorized dealer. If not? It might not be a great deal......

I think that particular 42" Pioneer plasma is at least 3000 CAD in North America . If you can get it for 1500 CAD brand new, I say Wow, you go boy.
