Best places to live in Toronto?

What are the best places to live in Toronto? Areas with a good nightlife, restaurants, movie theatres, pubs, coffee shops, stores, parks, pedestrian traffic etc.

When I go to Vaughn I'm amazed at how many amazing restaurants and stores they have, plus they have Canada's Wonderland, Vaughn Mills mall, and Collossus theatre. Great place to live.

Markham also has some great restaurants, but really not much else.

Yonge and Sheppard is a great area in North York, a ton of restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, malls, movie theatres, Mel Lastman Square, a lot of pedestrian traffic, it's a great place, and it's a relatively short drive to Yorkdale mall.

Yonge and Eglinton is the best place in midtown Toronto, it has everything and more. Great stores, a mall, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, comedy club, one of my favourite areas of the city.

Downtown has a lot of great places, Yonge and Dundas has Dundas Square and the Eaton's Centre, then on Yonge and King you have amazing restaurants, there's just too many areas of downtown that are great to live.

What do you think are the best places to live in the GTA? How about the best places downtown?

Best place downtown is Spadina/Front area. You're walking distance to the financial district and right in the core of the entertainment and restaurant area.

I guess most places downtown would fit that description, but I've always liked the scene in that part of the city.

I'm talking strictly about condo living. If I could afford a house downtown, probably have to say Cabbagetown area or Yorkville area. Just like the old architecture to the houses in that area.

I'd say the Little Italy area, College and around Palmerston Blvd. It's still old, close to Kensington Market.
Besides that, I'd like to live on Toronto Island but that isn't realistic.

Vaughan is extremely busy now and the traffic near Hwy 7 is unbearable and don't even think about rush hour there. Hwy 7 and Weston Road is an absolute nightmare. Yes Vaughan is a nice community to live in but be aware of the heavy traffic. The problem is you have Hwy 7, the 407 and the 400 all within the same block.

I could never live downtown. Too crowded, too many buildings, too many people, too much traffic. I find it almost claustrophobic! Wall to wall buildings and people and no room to breathe.

Ironically, I feel that way in Vaughan, where it's less dense with buildings and people.

Best area to live is in the Bridle Path, but I'd wait for a few years as there should be a 10 to 15% correction, then the houses should be more affordable, probably in the $10 to $15 million range. :faint:

The downtown core is the best. It's close to work ( if you work in the financial district) and it's close to the entertainment district. eg. You can pull girls from the clubs and have sex with them at your nearby condo.

Now there's an important reason why someone should buy a downtown condo, do give that reason as one of your criteria to a real estate agent when you're looking to buy?

It really depends on your lifestyle and what you enjoy doing. Specifically if you see yourself as a nightlife/restaurant kind of guy, or a backyard bbqer.

Obviously the bbq means living out where a house with a backyard is affordable, though if you have the cash there are a few places downtown, like the Annex. Just very pricy.

For condo living I can't imagine living anywhere other then downtown. If you're giving up the bbq, you should be getting the convenience of being right in the thick of things in exchange.

Yea, except beware of that kooky, old Italian man who goes around threatening people with his son, slashing tires, and the like. Good thing he's in jail now but when he gets out the community should put a peace bond on him, he's wacked.

As a single guy, I'd be on the harborfront, queens quay between yonge and lower simcoe. If not downtown, yonge and eg is prime.

As a family, I'd recommend north Toronto, between avenue and bayiew, as far north as York mills. You'd be 20 minutes away from anything that matters. Leaside, Lawrence Park, Lytton Park are great neighborhoods.

I also like Bloor west village/high park. Also convenient to downtown, restaurants, etc. it's more laid back too. Not as chill as the Beach, but cool.

That's the whole point, those people don't have time for chatting or want street parties, and speed bumps are put there to keep the large number of outside people who cruise the area, crowd the streets and gawk at the houses. They cherish their privacy. They live a life we are not familiar with.
