A nephew is thinking of getting an aquarium, giving everyone an automatic gift list. Can anyone offer a suggestion of where in the GTA to get a good selection and competent help.

Do the fish a favor and leave them in the ocean.

The Aquarium trade is destroying reefs and tropical fish stocks around the word.

Get a great Aquarium screensaver.

Make sure he gets a self cleaning one. Kids have a way of losing interest and then it will become lots of work for mom and dad.

And get the biggest possible aquarium. People make the mistake of thinking a small one is less work. The bigger the tank, the less work it is, because the larger volume of water is more stable.

A Hobby aquarium? Do you have any idea how much water you and the SP will displace during the act? (My advice: stick with spinners, unless you're built like a rake). Plus your gal is going to smell like fish, however impeccable her hygiene might be. It's probably a good idea to stick to terrariums for hobbying, and just shower together afterwards.

You're welcome.

You are talking salt water fish, right/ He's new and so I doubt he will have the skill or the money to handle a salt water collection.

The boy is not of legal age, so I doubt that what he meant. I could be wrong, but hey.

Yeah sure blame people who have aquariums.

Global warming and billions of tons of garbage in the oceans have less impact then a few fish getting "nemoed" off a tropical reef.

Get real.

Actually if you'd spent anytime in the South Pacific or knew half as much as you think you do, you'd understand that the harvesting of salt water aquarium fish by the boat load is having an affect on the reefs.

Most freshwater fish are captive bred, not so for salt water fish.

So you don't like fish, except maybe in your dog bowl, big deal. Apparently other members do and you're trying to piss on them as well. Clearly you didn't read the thread, nothing new for you. I see you've taken over for Rubbie showing snaps from your family album.

Please stay away from the major names... Big Al's and PJ's... GTFOOH!

I do agree with getting the biggest tank possible as it makes for more stable water. However, if you want to greater selection and better prices go to:

1) NAFB on Kingston Rd Scarborough (North American Fish Breeders)

2) Reef Raft in Mississauga or

3) There is the quirky but vastly knowledgeable Carl of Carl's Aquariums (check his channel on Youtube!)

Hope you didn't already get mislead my those under informed posts above..... I wish you nephew all the best in this innocent hobby (A close second to pooning for me! ...LOL)

PM me if you need more info
