#4 on the list is Dale Murphy.

This a group called The Baseball Project, fronted by Mike Mills of R.E.M., appealing to the Veterans' Committee to rectify this.

For some reason I thought Gil Hodges, a member of the fable "boys of Summer" was already in the HOF.

"The Boys of Summer is a 1972 non-fiction baseball book by Roger Kahn. After recounting his childhood in Brooklyn and his life as a young reporter on the New York Herald Tribune, the author relates some history of the Brooklyn Dodgers up to their victory in the 1955 World Series. He then tracks the lives of the players (Clem Labine, George Shuba, Carl Erskine, Andy Pafko, Joe Black, Preacher Roe, Pee Wee Reese, Carl Furillo, Gil Hodges, Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson and Billy Cox) over the subsequent years as they aged. The title of the book is taken from a Dylan Thomas poem that describes "the boys of Summer in their ruin."

At #107, my boyhood favourite, Rocky Colavito. For the last fifty years and several times on this site, I have proclaimed that the Rock should be in the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, I have met only one man who agrees and he died twenty years ago.

Unless I missed his name on the list, Dave Stieb.
In my book, a better pitcher than Jack Morris.

Bonds and Clemens need to be in. I don't care if they did steroids. I'm pretty sure Bagwell, Biggio and Piazza did them as well. The whole era is tainted. To let some in and not others is just plain stupid

A significantly better W.A.R., 56.4 vs. 43.5
I meant resume 3 world Series rings and a World series MVP. I think Steib was a better pitcher for a shorter period of time but Morris had the better career and accomplished more.

Sure, 3 World Series rings to 1, and the W.S. MVP.
I'd still rather have Stieb on the mound for my club than Morris.

Gil Hodges should be in the HOF, he punched out Enos Slaughter after the Cardinal player spiked Jackie Robinson in 1947. Hogdes rookie year was 1943 but missed three season due to military service in WW II.

He was also the Head Coach of the Miracle Mets in 1969.

Many players of that era lost their prime years wearing a different uniform in the service of their country. When Bob Feller was asked his biggest win he said "WW II".

Ted Williams missed seasons for WW II and the Korean War, he could have broken Ty Cobb's hits record if he had those seasons.

The more I read up on Gil Hodges the more impressed I am. He joined the Marine Corps and saw combat at Tinian and Okinawa. He received a Combat "V" Bronze Star for his valour. Slaughter is lucky he only got away with a concussion.

They would have been great players without PED. It's the marginal players who need PED.

Speaking of pitchers, without Googling, I think Dizzy Dean (150) and Koufax (165) have the least wins in the HOF. (Babe Ruth had 92.) I have this feeling that Randy Johnson might be the last 300 game winner for a long long time.

More information on Gil Hodges. After Japan surrendered he was part of an advance unit stationed in Sapporo to prevent a Soviet takeover of the island of Hokkaido, that's why he missed the 1946 season.

I would rather have him in the HOF than The Mighty A-Roid.

It'd be a nice move to induct Thurman Munson...

I remember at his prime that Dave Parker was the best player in baseball...he now lives in a wheelchair suffering from Parkinsons and has had both knees replaced.

He was actually on the front line. That is amazing! Usually celebrities are in the rear putting on exhibitions.

When Muhammed Ali was drafted, he said he didn't want to fight the Viet Cong. Somehow, I doubt he would have come within 10,000 miles of a Viet Cong. Most likely he would have been doing what Joe Louis did in WW II.

Awfully hard to win 20 games in a season, not to mention doing it 13-15 times.
