you may have to venture out into the 'Saug for some good Hakka :D

Wang's kitchen on hwy 10 and eglinton was pretty good. Also Chang and Huang... I forget exactly where they're located tho.

Then there's always Bombay Chopsticks which is relatively decent Hakka too.

isnt Hakka the Maori war chant that the New Zealand rugby team do before their matches?
possibly.

in this context (and in my understanding), Hakka is the term used to refer to Chinese families that immigrated to other countries (India, for example) and set their roots down there for generations, and absorbed the local cuisine into their own... so Hakka chinese food is different from regular chinese food in that it's got some mixed influence.

I went to a Hakka restaurant with an Indian friend once, and the chinese waiter there apparently spoke fluent hindi.. lol. China > India > Canada... i love this country.

hakka

Hakka is a language from Guadong or Fujian prov. In mandarin it is called KeJia Hua. But chinese often refer to the speakers as an ethnic group. Kind of like saying someone is catonese. But in general there is a group of Hakka speakers to emigrated from southern china following the British to many of their colonies (in particular many went to work on the Malay rubber farms). But large groups in middle of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc...

I think in this context maybe people are refering to Hakka speakers who lived in India/Pakastan and so have Indian style fusion chinese food. At least that is the style of food that place at Pharmacy and Sheppard sells.

That place is called the Oriental, and the owners are freinds of mine. You may wish to get your fill as they are planning to close the place in the not to distant future, and have no plans to reopen.. Also check your PM...

I tried Lin Garden today.

I go there about 2:05pm, and the lunch special ($4.75) had just ended, and the waitress wouldn't budge and serve me anything from it. I thought that was a little bit extreme, but I was determined to try this place so I ordered from the dinner menu

I order the Shrimp Pakora, with a side of steamed rice. The dish arrived and portion was huge...must have been 12 pieces, and a side of pickled/spiced cabbage. It looked really good.

And....really hot...so hot that every other spice was overpowered. I was on my 5th piece when I bit into a big piece of green chili. Immediately, I was in pain, and the sweat poured from my brow. Nothing was going to put that fire out except a gallon of milk with bread. I had to ask the waitress to pack up the rest to go. I've had pakora before, but never that hot. Maybe the kitchen was trying to tell me that I didn't belong, as I was the only white guy there. Place was really busy with a steady stream of take-out orders, so, some people must really like it.

I am dreading 12-14 hours from now.....

I'll try this place again, I'll just have to make it before the lunch special is over, and I'll ask them to tone down the heat....
