Says it's windows 10 home and has windows defender and that I'm protected. Is that sufficient?

Nothing is 100% but I would say yes unless your computer is some mission critical mainframe. I think every OS now has it baked in and that's all I've ever used and I haven't had a problem in 15-20 years? Defender (and MSE before it) has stopped a couple viruses from some websites I've been on but I've never gotten anything. In the event I ever do I'll just nuke the OS and install fresh. I do this from time to time as part of maintenance anyway and can do the whole thing and reinstall in about an hour. I'm not worried.

Never liked it due to it being middling rated.

Free Avast has a far better rating.

Avast works good.

When windows first came out with it's anti virus program as an option, it received good reviews, so I dropped my free program and installed it. The next day I got a virus and had to reinstall my PC.

Avast is indeed better than most and probably the most used free AV>
Some of the other free ones use lots of background resources like AVG and free Bitdefender.
I currently have a one year subscription on Mc Afee which is meh.
All the more reasons I have Malwarebytes and Spybot search and destroy.
I'ved donated to spybot, and Malwarebytes sales on the paid version are pretty good for under $20 for 3 years on several computers.
If I were buying, I'd look at paid Bitdefender or Kapersky.

Aside from Windows 10's own built-in protection, I use both Avast and Malwarebytes (both free).
Literally the only time I've had a problem with a virus was when my motherboard was failing, causing my Avast to stop functioning. That was back before I knew how to build my own computer and I've since kept my components up to date.

I think using both on real time protection will eat up your resources.

Definitely Windows defender is a good product.

The problem with Microsoft is that they have limited useless live support. But defender is a really good product. I tested it on an old computer by going to questionable sites. Downloaded a virus and although i had to restart windows in safe mode, defender got ride of the virus and protectec the computer hard drive.

I trust the product, just dont go to shit sites on a computer with important info, use a cg
Cheap lop top for that.
