The Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child

All the Jack Reacher books are great reads and are excellent recommendations but I guess I somehow thought they weren't strictly speaking cop or spy so I'm glad you brought them up.

I would also add the John Rain series written by Barry Eisler to this group.

The Charm School by Nelson Demille is similar and a very good read.

The best writer of spy thrillers currently writing is Alan Furst. He writes spy novels set in Europe in the 1930's, often about espionage campaigns between Germany and the Soviet Union. Try Night Soldiers, Dark Star or The Spies of Warsaw.
