Oops I started an honourable mention list, but then re-read the OP's admonition to pick "just ONE".

My bad.

"Best" is highly subjective. I'm a hip-hop fan of a certain age, so my personal favourite album of all time is The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest.

Best is less subjective than favourite. When evaluating best you should include content (lyrics, composition, arrangement, instrumentation), influence, innovation, delivery and cohesiveness as the main defining criteria.

I do love your chose of favourite though. I love Low End Theory more today than I did when it was released. Amazing album - jazz and hip hop meld so perfectly.

Nirvana Nevermind
unplugged

here he does the pines incorrectly attributed to leadbelly

the song is full of symbolism and the opening 2 words should be sung black girl not my girl

I think the pines symbolizes the losing of virginity

Just west of GTA
Mezzanine is another good, non-obvious choice.

On the Pink Floyd "side" everybody always mentions Dark Side or The Wall, but personally, I think Meddle is their best.
