Last couple weeks, I've noticed this problem with my connection. I would be on the net with no problems, when all of a sudden the DSL ligh on my modem goes off, (there are 3 lights that are required to be on, DSL is 1 of them). Most times, I would turn the modem off and on, maybe a few times and it'll will work again.

This morning I was on the internet with for several hours with no problems. I leave and shut my computer off for a couple hours during the mean time. and when I came back, the DSL light didnt light up. This lasted about 40 mins until there was finally a connection briefly. Now about another 20mins later, I try again, and its working now.

Curious as to why its gotten worst last few days especially today.

Is anyone else with BellSympatico experiencing this problem?
Maybe know why this is happening.
Seriously considering switching to Rogers1!

you'll regret it even more.....with rogers you cannot use itunes, podcasts, p2p (e.g. limewire, imesh, bearshare etc), torrents, newsgroups and you have a 100Gb limit....if your ok with all that then i suppose you'd be happier changing....i'd just change to another isp that provides dsl service (www.canadianisp.com)
What do you mean you can't use any these programs? Why the fudge not???
Does it stipulate this on Rogers user agreement or something???

I think they brought back download/upload limits.

As for Sympatico, something like what happened to you happens from time to time to me too. It's usually that the last green light flickers but won't stay solid, which is what you need to get a connection. Sometimes turning everything on and off works, sometimes I need to unplug and replug everything, sometimes I need to call Sympatico (I think they can do something on their end to send a signal, b/c a couple times I couldn't get it to work and so I called and they told me to reset the modem and then it worked--despite the fact that it didn't when I tried it on my own). The problems are rare, maybe a handful of times a year (definitely not monthly).

I was considering switching to Rogers but reading that previous post has made me think twice. I just wish Sympatico had ultra high speed in my area...

I know that these things happen from time to time, but my main point was that in recent days, esp today, was worst than other times. Seems like everytime it happens, it gets worst than last time. The DSL light isnt flickering, it just goes off completely and you dont see it at all.

I dont have too much to complain about BellSympatico, overall, I like it. But things like this, the first few times i didnt think about it much, no biggie, but after more then a week, whatever the problem is, it should be fixed.
It also doesnt help when you call tech and all they say is that you need to get a new cord or something like that. Happened to me 1 time , and I waited about 20 more mins than my connection came back.

I have talked to very nice techies who really makes you feel like they want to help, but then there are others, few times, very rude ones. Go figure.

Only reason I would consider joining Rogers is so i can get the phone, tv,net, package and order a sports package or something with their tv. But after reading the other thread and the responses from few of you here already, i guess Rogers is worst than i though. Thanx

I am with a wholesaler of Bell Sympatico. Basically they buy in bulk and selll to people like me. They sent me a email saying that Bell Nexxia is having trouble wioth their servers and it should be fixed in a few week.

old sympatico modem ?

I've been on sympatico dsl for about 10 yrs. That problem came up a year and a half ago and it turned out, after several weeks of frustrating phonecalls, that the problem was simply that the high speed nortel modem we had been using was too old ( almost 7 yrs old) and it just wasn't "talking" to the newer equipment and software. Bell replaced it and no problems since. My problems sounded identical to yours. good luck

I, too, am using Bell DSL, and have had problems connecting today. I restarted my computer just now, and things seem ok.

I really like Sympatico, it's been extremely smooth, but there a few times there have been service outages. It's tolerable for me.

These restrictions can be bypassed by port forwarding. Check the other recent thread on this subject.

The 60 - 100 Gb limit is for a month and gets renewed every month.

I am not suggesting to anyone my preference for Rogers. I hate it also. But some of the restrictions mentioned are easy to manage.
