Bell EMAIL nightmares

As a long time Bell Canada Internet subscriber, I have been experiencing some unwelcome issues with my email of late.

In short, bell is switching its email from a POP3 server set up to IMAP. (I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it does mean grief for me as a bell email subscriber.)

In short, of late, Bell has been dumping thousands upon thousands of old emails into my Outlook. At first, I thought it was "just one of those things" but the problem has persisted. Today, I got something like 15,000 emails, and to make matters worse, there are at least 5 or more copies of each and every email.

So my organization and cataloging of emails has been turned upside down.

I phoned Bell and they told me that YEP, basically they are emptying their servers of all old emails and just forwarding them to customers for them to handle. (Now I've already archived and filed my emails into relevant folders.)

So now all of a sudden, you have 15,000 emails in your inbox.

Jesus Christ.

So I call Bell and they have to deactivate one email account and create another using IMAP. (In the same name.)

Been on the phone with them 3 times today as the thing keeps seizing up. Now they're telling me that there is a problem with their system, blah blah blah.

And no more using hotmail to check your emails remotely, now it's bell.net. Which is no biggie I suppose, but all those emails that were on that server are now going bye bye.

Yup. Should never tie your email to an ISP. Golden handcuffs of the worst kind.

Just be grateful they didn't delete all your emails.

True, but my problem is that I really like using MS Outlook for email, contacts, calendar etc. And I really don't like Gmail at all. I tried configuring outlook to access Gmail, but it's not a perfect match. It can be done, but there's lots of bugs.

Now I just have to wade through tens of thousands of emails.

IMAP is for syncing with smart phones and gmail , etc. Use a gmail account as well and forward bell emails to gmail , then you will always have a cloud copy.

Unless things have changed, I have always used a Hotmail account with Outlook in Windows. You would need an add-in for your Windows installation. You also have the ability to store and archive e-mails in .pst files.

Bell itself is a nightmare. I don't have them for anything anymore.

Just got off the phone discussing this with Bell. Here is the "exciting" response, they have taken it to level 2 and will get back to me.
In my address book they have added "collected" addresses. Every time an e-mail comes in all the addresses are added to my collected addresses so I end up with a piss pot full of addresses I neither care about or want. Yes they can be deleted. The other problem with this anyone sending me an e-mail with multiple recipients on it, any sympatico users that I don't know now have my e-mail addy. Since Bell has "upgraded" the sympatico e-mail, I now get spam and phishing crap that I neither appreciate nor want.
As much as I don't want, it is time for a change. I am in a rural area and Bell was the best provider at a realistic price. Not sure the price matters any more.

I haven't gotten that far yet.

Dude on the phone yesterday showed me to go into "bell.net" online and sign in that way.

Are those addresses being kept there? Because they are not in outlook.

But it is funny / crazy reading some old emails that I thought were deleted. Who knew.

Yeah that is how I try to get in too. Actually put it in my favorites. Prior to the geniuses at Bell "upgrading" the e-mail I used my W10 app. The new e-mail is not compatible with the app. Dumb asses!

So wait is that why all of this random crap keeps coming into my inbox? I've marked over 2000 emails as spam at this point and they KEEP coming in. If I delete the "collected address" will they finally go into my spam folder, where they belong?

Seriously, screw you, bell email.

I was able to switch back my laptop to a POP account. I don't like the new IMAP either. You can do it on your desktop as well. unfortunately, you can't get POP on your phone or tablet.

Yes, screw you Bell

After my call to Bell, they sent me a survey looking for feedback on the way my complaint was handled. I expressed my views, which weren't pro Bell. Yesterday I received a call from Bell. It was a frigging
computer activated call telling me they fixed the problem. Big fu$*@($G deal!
