It appears that my folks, concerned about my being single, has taken it upon themselves to set me up with a friends daughter. I have met her before, about 8 years ago. Our families are going out to dinner this weekend in an attempt to hook me up.

What should a guy do? I will be the first to admit that i'm nothing to write home about, and add to the pressure of BOTH families there watching me with a microscope. Not to mention that my last set up was a unmitigated disaster. Someone put me out of my misery.

Just go with the flow...it will be alot easier being with the families, instead of having to go out with her alone. That would put you on the spot more.
I know some people will say it's the other way around, but not in my opinion. Just my 2 cents...

Tell your parents that you are gay.

This shoud work for two reasons,
1) you will have no pressure from either family, they may ask you to take her shopping though.

2) Chicks will become closer to you, then it is much eisier to get them in bed.

Married people seem to think they know better. Somehow it's a crime to be single or every married couples gotta have kids.

These arranged situations rarely work unless really strong attraction or you both are thick skin as everyone is watching.

Often at banquets when married friends play matchmaker, so insensitive to how the girl may feel - the 3rd wheel, leftover, old maid, etc.

To get out of the spotlight, if she suits your taste, take the offensive. Take the girl out for coffee, away from the praying eyes. You'll get to know her better 1-on-1.

Just a little uncomfortable situation buddy let your parents know that you think that you should maybe go out for dinner made for two you and her, I think without the parents watching over you guys might make the night go smoother

If not, why not go out for this event? Hell, at least you will get to spend some time with your folks, and I don't know them personally, but maybe the only reason you feel you will be under the microscope is because of your feelings. Another question for you: when you met her 8 yrs ago, (don't know how old you are so ....) was there any attraction? Is she cute? Butterface? Butterbody? Hot Cold Indifferent?

I don't know what the big problem is with being set up. It is a proven fact that when a guy is introduced by someone else (even better when it is a woman/girl doing the intro) he has a 80% better chance with her than meeting her on her own.

Hell, I've only been set up twice in my life and one time the relationship lasted for 4 yrs. I WISH my buddie's wives/gf's would set me up.....

Anyhow, go for it. You've got nother and I repeat NOTHING to lose.....

To answer your questions, she was rather attractive and taller than me. There was an attraction but i don't think it was mutual, but one sided.

Being set up by one's buddys g/f or wife is one thing, being set up by families is another type of headache.

If all goes well, i might be able to ask her to go out for just the two of us.
If all goes wrong, she can go back to her b/f and i'll be back here.

Hey Man you never know even if it doesn't end in love or sex a new friend is always good especially if she has other hot friends. Sometimes being a gentleman can work in you favour. And Free food is free food.

Well, if you were attracted to her then, maybe you still will be? Also keep in mind if she wasn't interested at all, the date wouldn't happen so there must be something there......
