Beer store and LCBO can not sell beer 1 year after its bottled or canned date which should be on the bottle.
It may be possible it's on exterior packaging only for some brands, maybe beer store or LCBO employee would know that which won't help you out.
If your that worried about it, just chuck it.

American info on Beeradvocate may not apply to beer sold in Ontario

Found this unopened bottle (still capped) behind some furniture. Don't know how long its been there or when the it was purchased. Showed it to a couple of employees at the Beer Store. They didn't know its BBD.

Open it, if it smells/tastes bad, don't drink it. It's as simple as that. It' not like it will make you sick if it's past the BBD.

I once left an open bottle of beer under the table at the late beloved CB. When I returned the next day, it was still there.
Speaking of beer... A dancer once told me her customer in the vip ordered a Corona and told her to ride the full bottle for a bit, then left it on the table. Apparently the next guy who sat in that booth started drinking it. lol

Because beer can begin to breakdown in light, or heat… it is impossible to give it a best before date. Stored properly in a dark cool place, it will last a long time. Leave it out in the hot sun for a few days it will go skunky pretty fast.

I left a case of cans in my car for 3 days a few weeks ago, and I took it to my buddies bonfire. We wagered whether it would still be good. Lucked out…. It was fine.

Years ago there was a small notch in the label on beer bottles, the position on the label, similar to a clock face, indicated the month the bottle was filled. Not sure if they still do that.

I have a beer from 2001 - unopened from Arizona called Chili Arizona - looks disgusting but it has been with me since that time and it lives in my parents garage to this date. :ROFLMAO: I should've drank it at the time, since I never saw a beer with a real Chili.

Better to choose those that are in a can or dark bottle to minimize spoilage
I used to drink Sleeman Ale back in the 90s. They were in clear bottles and I'd often get a skunky one. Now I like MGD in the clear bottle, which is brewed in the US. I've never had a skunky MGD.

Hermetically sealed is good for about a year, if pasteurized. Non pasteurized, sealed or not, last weeks at the most.
