Hi gents. I had my prostate removed in early November. Needless to say, my PSA had been going up the previous year so had a biopsy and yes, they found cancer.
It’s been a rough ride and soon, I’ll hear my pathology and PSA results since the surgery.
Guys, get your PSA tested if your 45+ at least once a year.
I’m on the bench and sure do miss my visits with Monica.
You never know. Maybe down the road. It’ll be a long one though.

Not quite sure how to PM so I’ll give you a summary here. Get your PSA tested through your family doc. (Your family doc will do an exam himself in the office to feel for lumps or bumps and to establish if your prostate is enlarged.) (if you’re having any trouble peeing or your flow has slowed down, it’s likely that your prostate is enlarged.)
Depending on your PSA score/level, he may or at your request, refer you to a urologist. The urologist May or may not do a scope exam on your prostate or send you for a biopsy. In both scenarios, they are looking to eliminate or identify cancer cells or tumours on your prostate.
if cancer is found, the urologist will explain your options and the risks between surgery to remove the prostate or radiation. (He is also the surgeon, so to allow you to make an informed decision he will prob refer you to an oncologist to discuss radiation.
my choice, after all being considered, was to have my prostate removed.
it’s a bit of a deal breaker for your sex life, and you will write off about 6-8 weeks recovering, (it’s major abdominal surgery), but I just got the results of my first PSA test (6 weeks after surgery), and PSA was “undetectable”, which is a great first test result compared to when it all started for me with a 5.5.

no.. they give you a sterile bottle.. take a spray and leave in their fridge..

PSA is serological, i.e. a blood sample is drawn. There are urine based molecular-diagnostic tests, more accurate but more expensive. The stool test jpb referred to is for colorectal cancer.

My surgery (Prostate removal) was approx. 7.5 weeks ago. Still healing. Sex life is non existent at this time and for at least the next little while. If you read up on it, you’ll find your answer. Everyone is different. Spouses or partners are a big factor as well.
They say orgasms are still possible after healing but will be dry from now on. (Some female partners will be happy to hear that I guess, lol).

Bob, do some research. You’re way off the mark. The stool sample is for colon cancer and totally unrelated to this. Read up on it!

My surgery (Prostate removal) was approx. 7.5 weeks ago. Still healing. Sex life is non existent at this time and for at least the next little while. If you read up on it, you’ll find your answer. Everyone is different. Spouses or partners are a big factor as well.
They say orgasms are still possible after healing but will be dry from now on. (Some female partners will be happy to hear that I guess, lol).
