BB Torch or iPhone?

I'm currently looking for a new cell phone. My main purpose (surprisingly) is to have a mobile phone.

Secondary to this is the ability to send text messages and to access my email accounts.

Finally, I would like sufficient storage for my MP3 files so that I don't have to carry my phone as well as my iPod when I'm driving. Web surfing is not a high priority, as once again, I'm primarily looking to text and connect to email.

Any input is welcome, along with suggestions as to which provider offers the best rates.

Thanks in advance - bigshot

I would suggest testing both phones to see if you're comfortable with each device's the texting functionality. As for storage, both phones are capable of 32GB storage (iPhone is fixed; Torch->expandable to 32GB).

Both phones work fine as phones, both do texting and email. An iphone will integrate with itunes the same way your ipod does so there would be no transition there. Can't speak to costs/plans in Canada. There are about a third of a million apps for the iPhone but it doesn't sound like you care about that.

In all honesty I was going to say the following without having read your post and just the title (from the forum section).
1) emails and texting - BB, although Torch is one heavy SOB in comparison to a Bold
2) surfing and multimedia - iPhone and Android

One thing that the Android has that really kicks ass for texting is the Swype feature, a really fast way of texting, you'll never like the old school way of typing on a touchscreen again.

But any of the big 3 are fine. Keep in mind, with the BB, you're running off their servers which is more stable, secure and tends to have a much more stronger connection.

If you're just going to text and email, get a Blackberry. I'd wait for the new bold touch that should be out by summer.

If you must have your mp3's too, I'd get an iPhone then.

I've setup the BB, iPhone and Android based phones for clients and they all have their pro's and con's. I wound up with the Android and love it. The Blackberry's have had trouble when connecting to exchange servers. Had to take a BB to Telus to try to get it to talk to an exchange server and the tech couldn't do it. Meanwhile the guys business partner was using an iPhone and it took less than a minute to hook it up and begin to get his emails.

Good luck with your choice.

Regarding Blackberries and Exchange. If you're using the BIS, you can only use Exchange with it via OWA.

Otherwise, BES or BES Express is required for full Exchange integration.
