Why did you wait until the last minute to pay your bill when the due date is clearly printed on the statement?
I was busy being Mall Santa at the mall. LOL!
I always pay my bills a few business days ahead of the due date in case there are any problems.
Why the hell would they have a due date of December 27th when they are closed December 26, 25, 24 and 23?
The more important question is why don't you have enough cash in your bank account?
Cash is scarce.

I have would need to check this out or call my bank, I didn't know the difference.

On side note banks are now closing the ATM's because of the homeless and people looking for wi-fi.
I wish they would go back to the days of needing a bank card to open the door after business hours.

Were you so busy that you couldn't check your mailbox and online statements? Or too busy to pay rent / mortage, electric, phone bill, etc.?

Is this the first time you've seen or paid a credit card statement? December 27 is a regular business day. The bank can make the due date to whatever it likes and it's your responsibility to pay it even if your branch is closed. They give you lots of time to pay the bill. If the due date falls on a weekend or holiday, then you can pay it on the next business day and it counts as being on-time. You could have easily paid the bill on December 22 or better yet before that.

Cash is scarce.
Don't you think that's a bigger problem?

Now that you mention it, I haven't noticed a bank that has a card door lock in a very long time. It could be that the card locks have reliability / security problems or few companes make them anymore.

A while back I went to use the ATM at my local bank. The ATM is just inside the outside door. The bank branch itself is behind another door. So, the ATM is actually in an inside self-contained area. Saw a family in there. Man, woman nursing a child and a small kid.

Nope bank cards are so common place that it became pointless maintaining the security locks when you RBC can open BoM and TD Bank and so on.

That makes sense as the banks want to make it easier for non-clients to use their ATMs so they can charge them fees. On the other hand, I think xix's and Jensis's point is to secure the vestibule area to deter homeless people from hanging out there. As with everything, it depends on where the branch is located.

Homeless have bank cards too. Banks would rather let everyone have access so they get every fee they can since it won't be the branch manager cleaning the garbage, shit, and piss from the ATM area.
