A sign of the times I guess. At my gym they recently posted a notice:

Attention Members,

Due to recent advances in cell phone technology, some phones now come equipped with cameras. Accordingly, to ensure the comfort and privacy of our members please note that all cell phones in the club are now banned. Please keep cell phones inside your gym bag or jacket pocket. The use of cell phones anywhere in the club will no longer be allowed.

We thank you for your co-operation.

Just a matter of time before the strip clubs prohibit them.
Don't give them any ideas. I've recently realized the true potential of my new toy and I plan to make the most of it. :D

Actually this could have a pretty dramatic impact on cell phone use.

Why? I don't see any issue with having a camera on your phone and as long as you are in the public domain then there shouldn't be any restrictions.

As far as health clubs go, mine has more of a problem with retired guys standing around ogling the MILFs who drop off their kids at school and head to the gym first thing in the morning than with Cameras. Of course I'm right there with them, and they can say their drooling is an aging thing and get away with it.

Here
They cannot ban the technology, but they can regulate it. The health club notices have been posted and in effect here in Atlanta for at least 6 months.

Well the notice doesn't ban digital cameras...they can be just as small as a cell phone...and take movie clips...

The same thing is happening in the work place. The GM plant in Oshawa no longer allows the use of phones for fear that employees will photograph the production process and sell their trade secrets to the competiton. Needless to say the union is up in arms about this.
Thats news to me,i work there and Ive not seen or heard anything about a cell phone ban............

WAGG has a big sign at the front door saying they will break camera phones or something of that nature. You can no longer use phones in a lot of arena dressing rooms either.

Between a rock and a hard place
This is one more example of a few bad apples ruining a handy convenience for the responsible majority.

I read a story about some cruel high school kids who tormented an overweight girl by taking a picture of her in the shower after gym class. By the time she emerged from the locker room, her picture was all over the school and the internet. Not one of the numerous kids that received the image would divulge it's source for fear of reprimand (i.e. they would be next) from the bullies that tortured the poor girl in the first place.

Cel phones did not exist when I went to high school. For most kids, they are to this day more of a luxury or status symbol than a necessity. What do most kids need with them during school hours anyway? By all means if you think your child needs to carry one throughout the day for emergencies thats understandable -- but otherwise cant they please restrict their non-emergency use to after school and off the property?

I can't live without my cell phone but I can't imagine myself with a cam-cell. How am I to lie to my GF when all she have to do is ask me to send her a pic of my surroundin?

It would be a lot easier if people could deal with nudity without going nuts. So someone takes my picture in shower at the gym. So what? They pass it around and I have to admit that I was naked at the gym? Everyone I know has seen my wife naked, so what? It is a little different with kids, but kids don't get naked in the gym. I never showered once in gym in high school. In hindsight, that may have been reflected in my social life.

No, but kids getnaked in the changeroom at the public swimming pool. That is why communities such as Milton, Guelph, Ajax and Pickering (I believe) have just passed municipal by-laws making the use of these devices prohibitied in certain areas.

If we were all as responsible as we think we are, it would not be an issue. All it takes is one a$$hole to spoil it for the bunch. Picture the guy next to you in the VIP with his cell phone out while something of yours is out. How would the wife feel now C.D.?

Am I the only one in this city that does not own a cell phone? Never have and don't anticipate owning one in the near future. If I want to continue to occasionally participate in this hobby, I can't take on any more monthly bills. Besides, I definitely don't need one for the work I do and I don't want to be recieving calls every where I am. Besides, I'm sick and tired of hearing cell phones ringing everywhere, every single day. Even if I was filthy rich, I wouldn't want one! Hey Larry King and Oprah, I'm with you! (They don't own cellphones either).

They're handy for making calls. I just turn mine off when I don't want to be disturbed.

The pics that those cameras take are not the best, for one thing, and in an dark enviornment such as an SC,theres no way they would work without a flash attachment,Ive tried mine in a darkened room and you see nothing,so id say a lot of ppl are worrying about nothing at all, they're not a "Secret Agent" type camera!!

It won't take long for manufacturers to get higher end CCD chips into their cameras...overall picture quality won't be great because of the limitations on pixle density, flashes won't be necessary. It's something that will become much more of an issue as the cameras develop (no pun intended)
