Been to Thailand and didn't really feel the love. Never understood the attraction of retiring to a third world country and being surrounded by resentful locals.

Been to Thailand and didn't really feel the love. Never understood the attraction of retiring to a third world country and being surrounded by resentful locals.

I thought so too, it was really strange. I went with impression that everyone would be very friendly, since it is known as the land of smiles.

However, the men especially were almost hostile to me. I remember going into a shoe store, and the worker, who was a middle-aged man, was very cold towards me. When I decided not to buy anything because of his attitude, he angrily accused me of “joking “ with him, and thought I was just fooling around.

There is definitely some jealousy or resentment by the men.
