I'm torn. On the one hand, its great that the kid will grow up with a healthy respect for guns and be familiar with safe handling procedures. If dad's going to have guns around the house - and clearly this guy is - then by teaching the kid about them and letting him fire them in a safe, controlled environment, the "curiosity factor" won't be there, and the kid won't kill himself or someone else by trying to break into the gun lockup to see what all the fuss is about.

On the other hand, it can't be good for a toddler's ears, being so close to a gun when its fired.

Conclusion - the kid's too young. He won't remember or appreciate it anyhow. Just recall grandpa's old adage about when to start playing with gun's........on your 1000th day, fire away. Good motto for kids and guns.

Ummm look at what the kid is wearing on his head.
As for the curiosity factor, my grandfather kept a pellet gun at the back door of the house to scare away the animals that would go into his garden. Appearantly, at the the tender age of 3 I did fire it once and amazingly I did hit my target. Unfortunately my target was my mother's ass. Any guesses as to which one of us had the sorer behind?

Too funny (thankfully). Of course, it's your granddad she should have been beating!

Yes I saw the ear defenders and kudos to dad for at least thinking about that, but they only muffle the sound a little bit, not very much ( I always leave a firing range with my ears ringing, despite using quality ear defenders. Since a kid's ears are more sensitive than ours, he could do long-term damage to the boy's hearing, even with the muffs. In general, although it makes a cute photo, its a bad idea.

That's the thing about the U.S.

No one seems to care that this kid is shooting a gun, but imagine the outrage if the father was showing the kid a Playboy.
