Ya right. Instead, we have a minority (wonder why) govt whose party leader was an insipiete little grudge fuck who embarrassed our country to the world by suing an ex-PM (charges later dropped) and then carried out similar accusation activity with his golfing buddies.

The bottom line is that Liberals are just as fucking sleezy as all other politicians....maybe moreso given that they lie by breaking campaign promises.

Does this mean the NDP can sue Rush Limbaugh for his decade-plus of lies? Jeez... Conservatives sure like to dish it out, but it's pretty obvious that they have a hard time taking it...

In spite of their new [sic] name and new[siccer, or should that be snicker?] platform, the Conservatives only managed to get a third of the votes cast. Liberals and other social democrats got all the rest. Shows the voters are too smart to be hoodwinked by either big party—no longer in one case, and not yet in the other.

Ri-i-i-ight.

IMO it shows that alot of voters are misinformed sheep who believe any tripe the scare-mongering hoodlums spew upon them with their maligning attack ads.

As I recall, all the parties heartily partook in negative ad campaigning. No one took any high ground there.

It actually is a legit complaint:

Specifically, the Canada Elections Act, which states "[no] person who does not reside in Canada shall, during an election period, in any way induce electors to vote or refrain from voting or vote or refrain from voting for a particular candidate" unless the person is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.

It would be ok if Moore made comments like: "I really hope the Conservative Party doesn't win because I think they'd be bad for Canada and I don't like Stephen Harper"

That is ok because he is just giving his opinion on who he is rooting for. If he publically announces that he thinks Harper is a prick, that is just him giving his personal opinion.

But he explicitly called out to Canadians and pleaded them not to vote Conservative. On his site he had an open letter to Canadians. That is where the problem lies. He told us who we should vote for.

Interesting, but the flaw - it seems to me - is that Moore's website is not Canadian. Is Elections Canada is going to police everything that's said about Canadian politics on the internet? Good friggin' luck. How many non-Canadians on TERB made comments about who we should vote for?

The conservative reaction to Moore has been as hilarious as it has been stupid. They've been a virtual free-publicity machine for Moore. A quiet "He has his opinions, we have ours" would have been sooooooo much more effective.

It doesn't really matter whether Moore's site is in Canada or not. The Elections Act of Canada doesn't make that distinction (of if the influence came from a source within Canada). The law's intent is to prevent foreign interference in federal elections in Canada and to ensure parties don't get around regulations by having advertising done for them in foreign countries. It was mainly aimed at the US because we are so bombardied by their media.

Anyway Moore has publically made the same comments when he was in Toronto during screenings of F911.

Whatever. The law is kinda lame and too open for debate. I don't agree with it. I'm just saying that there is some substance to the accusation.

Of course, the intent was to avoid Buffalo TV beaming advertising into Canada.

But it is lame to complain about somebody in Timbuktu urging canadians to avoid voting conservative.
