AVG Internet Security vs. Anti Virus - which one to get?

I finally deleted Norton because it is a big piece of steaming dog shit.

AVG comes recommended from one of my propeller head friends.

Question:

Should I go for just the antivirus protection, or internet security?

I had the Norton Internet Security and it was forever driving me crazy.

I'm thinking all I really need is the antivirus and I'm good to go.

If all you need is a simple antivirus program, the AVG free edition is fine. Also the SuperAntiSpyware program is free and will supplement whatever AVG does not catch.

As you discovered Norton Internet Security is too bloated and overkill IMHO.
The latest Norton AV is pretty decent though.

IMHO all you need for Windows is a good AV, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 and CCleaner.

My fav Windows AV is Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials right now. They are both free and highly rated.

Anti-virus software works until it doesn't! The most highly rated Anti-Virus software is and has been for years: Kaspersky.

You can frequently buy it for $40 on sale, covers 3 machines for a year.

Kaspersky is in a class by itself. If you ever get a virus, you'll wish you had Kaspersky. Personally, I wouldn't trust MS with my data.

True Kaspersky is top rated. It's just I've never paid for any AV and can't see doing it now that Linux is my main OS. During my first 5 yrs on a PC was the only times I've been attacked, while being a total PC newbie. Been using Avast since 2006 with no issues whatsoever. Put Microsoft Security Essentials on my new PC because it was highly rated and runs fast and lean. Plus the fact I take care when surfing with Windows now. However with Linux I go anywhere and everywhere with total impunity and abandon.
