Once again it takes a white man to save the world because of course non-whites could not possibly save themselves.

It seems that Racism is the flavour de jour in the US. When it starts to loose speed in the Government, being usurped by the rest of the great stuff in the new book, it raises it's head elsewhere. What's that game recently reborn in political analyst's circles; WHACK-A-MOLE. If you can't pinpoint a particular race, you make one up. FFS!

Please, Fuji, another Avatar thread might confuse our schpecial friend and he won't know where to come home to when the time comes.

You want racism? Pick up a rap album and listen to what word is used to describe a black man.

That and many other expletive deletives, mostly used by the black artists themselves. They love to use the "n****r" word just as much as the KKK.

I'm sure James Cameron had racism as his theme when he wrote Avatar. Give me a break....let's get real here!

That's 1 thing to call themselves, ever notice how they talk about others? Take that kid Soldier Boy for example, every other word that comes out of his mouth is cracker this and N that. Funny how noone ever points that out or raises a concern. This is still a kid we are talking about here.

.

Once again the race card gets played to the detriment of legitimate concerns .

Let's see now . In the movie most white guys are greedy and inhumane . The hero only becomes good when
he isn't a white guy but a 9 foot blue guy . In fact it is preferable to becomes a 9 ft blue guy than to spend
his life as a white guy so he converts . It is actually the blue girl who kills the main bad guy and saves the world .

If you are looking to play the race card then this movie is a poor vehicle to choose . Just enjoy the movie
and if you see parallels to colonization in our history then tell me about it but really the racism allegations
you can keep to yourself because there is no support .

I my experience, racism is alive and well in the non white population far more than with the white bread sector of society. Yet they are the first to cry racism when things don' t go their way for whatever reason. It's just a movie, enjoy it.

It is indeed a straight retelling of the Pocahantus myth: Natives living in an ideal paradise face destruction at the hands of evil white men but are saved when a better white man joins their culture and teaches them the proper way of doing things.

I may be the only one here who doesn't know the Pocahontas story. In the ending, does she kill the evil white man to save the good white man, thereby saving her own people?

That's a rather flippant statement to make...but I'll run with it.

About a decade ago I was in correspondence with an Apache family in New Mexico. It began with me making an off colour joke and being accused of racism. So I countered with my knowledge of native history and let it be known that to accuse me of racism smacked of judgmental shallowness - they relented.

They eventually told me about how much they loved Dances With Wolves, so I recommended that they watch Black Robe as well. I told them that I thought it was just as good a film as DWW. Months pass before I got around to asking them if they had seen the film; they told me they had, hated it and labelled the film as racist. So I watched the film again and understood their grievance - the Indians were depicted as being as mentally weak and ignorant as the French.

Racism can be very convenient tag when something makes you uncomfortable.

In actual history no. In fanciful, legendary, mythical exaggerations of her story she saves her white husband from death and he goes on to become the savior of her people.

See the Disney animated Pocahontas for an example.

In the mythical Pocahontas story the war is generally averted when Pocahontas and her white lover's relationship enable them to demonstrate to both sides the evil of the white British soldiers, who are attacking her people in a greedy quest to find gold, and the violence is stopped after the evil British general is killed and both sides see the pointlessness of war.

None of that really happened, though.

Fuck the blue Navvi, and all their blue friends.

Me, I was rooting for the white guys all along.

White guys have been taking it up the ass in imaginary kingdoms by imaginary blue characters for generations, and I thought that finally, it was high time that we white guys had our turn.

Notice how there are no white people in Teletubbie land? The Gay guy, the purple (bluiesh) character, (he carries a woman’s handbag) is the largest of the four, clearly the dominant species, and an asshole. He doesn’t speak proper English, and is clearly promoting an anti white, antii-Christian, pro-electronic, faux-benevolent television based technology-cult where white people aren’t welcome. This so-called blue role model, is someone, some thing, about which we should be deeply concerned.

The Smurfs' sharing caring, society, is obviously based on what are essentially communistic principles, with each Smurf contributing to the community based upon his talents, Handy, Brainy, and Nanny Smurf, for example) all communally enjoy the necessities of life, in a cashless economy, putting forward what is clearly one hell of a dangerous and subversive example for our children.
The only white person in the Smurf universe is Gargamel, a wizard who is portrayed as a dick.

Some of you may be too young to remember Huckleberry Hound. Well, I remember him. He's a blue hound dog drawn with a broad clumsy brush as Southern blue trash, for whom an inability to lold a steady job, is just one of his many failings. He’s the hero, however, while white people in contrast are characterized as by being villainous, but inept.

Sonic the Hedgehog , not only promotes a hateful anti-white agenda from video games, but the small screen as well. This ethnic food loving chili dog disordered, blue hedgehog, short tempered, and impatient with creatures who move slower than himself, successfully discriminates against white people in the form of the associates of white scientist Dr. Robotnik.

It's a crying damn shame, and I could go on and on, but my mom says its past my bedtime.

Like I said, don't give away the end, please, boot to the head. Unless of course you're lying in which case naughty naughty.

I've seen the movie.

I've seen plenty of racial and colonial analysis of it.

I still really managed to like the movie. I tried to hate it but I just couldn't. It was quite good.

Personally I'd strip the racial criticisms of it out (That's a side effect of Hollywood casting as much as anything else, and it's easier to kill white guys on screen these days, so it's a 'twofer'), though the colonial one is a fair bit more appropriate if you look at it through that lens. Mind you an optimist could say the message was far more environmentalist and anti-corporatist than pro-colonial. It was unfortunate that so much of the cast was so white because it makes the 'white man's burden' argument so much easier but at the end of the day it was some humans trying to solve a problem that humans created BY DEFERRING TO THE SUPREMACY OF THE INDIGENOUS IDEOLOGY / WAY OF LIFE. You could say, "White man goes native", but ultimately this was humanity presenting an alien civilization with a total 'outside context' problem. Once humanity was put 'in context' what happened happened, but there is no indication that this wouldn't have eventually happened anyway. The parallels with Native North Americans (and indigenous peoples around the world) are obvious and intentional but the movie was none too kind to the WASPy world order, corporatism, colonialism, or even humanity in general. (What was it, "A sad and dieing people from a brown and dieing planet."?) In it's own limited way this is a deeply subversive movie in about the best way possible.
