Even if they miss a few locations this is worth doing. Every litre of sarin that is transferred to safe hands makes the world safer and reduces the odds that Al Qaeda or Hezbollah will wind up with it.

It will be impossible to verify that they got it all, but getting most of it is still worth doing.

And I also support limited, surgical strikes. A Republican rep argued that attacking Assad would weaken him vis-à-vis the rebel extremists, but you can't do nothing if chemical weapons are available for his use (or especially if he uses them again).

The Syria researcher, Elizabeth O’Bagy, whose Wall Street Journal op-ed piece was cited by Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain during congressional hearings about the use of force has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for lying about having a Ph.D., the group announced on Wednesday.

O’Bagy’s Aug. 30 op-ed piece for the Journal, “On the Front Lines of Syria’s Civil War,” was cited by both Kerry and McCain last week. McCain read from the piece last Tuesday to Kerry, calling it “an important op-ed by Dr. Elizabeth O’Bagy.” The next day, Kerry also brought up the piece before a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing and described it as a “very interesting article” and recommended that members read it.

“I’m not a war monger,” she told POLITICO. “I’m not advocating the United States start a war or get in the middle of one. At heart, I’m just a researcher. I love being in the field. I love doing the interviews and collecting the data.”

There seems to be some question as to whether she is in fact a PhD Candidate. It appears that perhaps she jumped the gun a bit as an ABD, rather than just plain baldfaced lied.

Assad tells Obama to stop arming rebels, or no deal

President Obama must promise not to arm rebel forces or Syrian dictator Bashar Assad will not hand over his chemical weapons, the embattled leader told a Russian state media outlet today while demanding that Israel also surrender its nuclear arsenal.

“When we see that the U.S. genuinely stands for stability in our region, stops threatening us with military intervention and stops supplying terrorists with weapons, then we will consider it possible to finalize all necessary procedures and they will become legitimate and acceptable for Syria," Assad told RIA News.

Obama asked Congress to postpone a vote authorizing use of military force in Syria after Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to broker a deal whereby the U.S. would not attack the Assad regime if he surrendered his chemical weapons.

Assad said that the Middle East won't have peace until Israel also surrenders its weapons of mass destruction.

“If we really want stability in the Middle East, all the countries [in the region] must honor the agreements. And the first country to do so is Israel because it possesses nuclear, chemical and biological weapons – all types of weapons of mass destruction,”
