"The real decision is always whether the benefits outweigh the risks.

...This is particularly challenging in a pandemic. Normally medicine would rely on the "precautionary principle" to prove adequate safety before giving a new medicine to large numbers of people. But in a pandemic, any delays in vaccinating people will also cost lives.

Based on the Germany data alone, if you vaccinate a million people then you would expect 12 to have a blood clot and four of them to die.

But if a million 60-year-olds catch coronavirus then around 20,000 would die of Covid-19. If a million 40-year-olds catch coronavirus then around 1,000 die. It would be a few hundred people in their 30s.

It is really an interesting question. There is personal benefit and risk calculation, versus the benefit and risk to society as a whole.

I think that even people with a low personal risk from covid itself should still be taking the risk of vaccine side-effects for the good of society. Period. End of story. Grow the fuck up and do what is right for everyone around you. Get vaccinated.

Anyone who has unreasonable objections to vaccines (oh it will modify my DNA or Bill Gates will control me) but still hope to get covid protection due to herd immunity are selfish assholes. Same with trolling covid deniers just looking to stir up shit. Now is not the time.

To those people: Your character is being tested right now. You are failing.

Possible exception for vaccination hesitation is young women and Astra Zeneca, it is reasonable to be cautious until they understand whether there is a blood clot link better.

I’m in the target group of those who could get the blood-clot. I don’t want to get the AZ because of that. However if it was offered to me today, I would take it. The risks of COVID still outweigh the risks of blood clots. However, if I have a choice, or can manage to make an appointment at a hospital over a pharmacy, which will mostly likely have the one of the other vaccines and not the AZ, then I will do that. It appears better to book at place you know can store one of the other two vaccines at lower temps, As it may increase your chances of getting those over the AZ.

I turn 60 this year I had a chance to get one of the AZ shots back in March and got the shot. I had not side effects at all. I will gladly take my second shot of it when the time is right, about three months after the first one based on the original study data

I believe only the pharmacies are injecting AZ. The thing is it is the only one being offered to folks under 60 at the moment.

Pfizer is even worse, but there’s no campaign against Pfizer. I wonder why that is.

I really wish there was a comparison of all the red - herring type issues, as I think the miniscule clot danger which is no higher than naturally occurring clots, could be filtered out. I'm taking whatever gets offered including AZ.

I refuse to be brainwashed into believing that normal life is too scary.

Hospitals are giving vaccines to 50+ in some at-risk postal codes. My postal code is included but sadly I need to wait until another age drop or two.

Yes, in York I was reading they are accepting 45 to 59 in some postal codes.

I am not anti vaccine, however I choose not to participate in a vaccine trial, as it’s my right to do.

I would like to thank all of you brave volunteers for the sacrifice you are making to allow people like myself to make an informed decision when the trial is complete and the risk/reward is assessed.

Seriously, thank you.

yes! it's a well-known conspiracy! many people say that as soon as patriots raise against Pfizer, it secretly offers them to pick between a life time Viagra supply or meeting Hugo Chavez.

Me too, all good so far. GP said with no disclaimer if you get a chance to get a needle in your arm take it, and I did.
