Doesn't mean anyone should lose any sleep over it.
5,560 to one. It might just as well be deflected far away from our orbit as into it.

Is our number going to come up sometime? Almost certainly. Is there much we can do about it? Not really.

The only solution is to find things when they're very far away. This would require a lot of money. Nobody's stepping forward to fund these kinds of searches. Until they do, we're screwed. Even if they do, we may be screwed. Get used to it. We're an insignificant speck on a mote of dust.

HHmmm.......its now almost 2006, the asteroid may hit us in 2036, or 30 years from now.
If you will 45 in 30 years that means you are 15 years old

I know we are not very important in the cosmic scheme of things .
I don't think we should just give up , whats the point of developing civilization if you don't at least try and preserve it.

So, you need to argue with your government representatives that money should be spent on the long-range detection and catalogue of near-earth orbit asteroids.

Good luck with that.

Each person has:
1 in 20,000 odds for death in an airplane crash.
1 in 50,000 for death in a tornado
1 in 5,000 for death by electrocution
1 in 2,000 for death in a firearms accident.

You still like those 1 in 5,560 odds??? :p
Sorry, I have to dispute your statistics. I can't believe that, of all the people living today, 300,000 of them will die in airplane crashes. From car bombs, maybe, but not that many for airplane crashes.

I don't even see why things like this are published. Keep it away from the general public. There isn't anything they could do but panic.

They are taken over a 50 year life span
I got those stats from:
Center for Experimental Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics (CENPA)
University of Washington in Seattle

It's God's will, perhaps He'll tell a modern day Noah to start building a space ark.

Or perhaps not.
