Association Of American Physicians Says 'Trump-Touted' Drug Has 90% Chance Of Helping COVID-19 Patients

In a letter to Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona, https://aapsonline.org/aaps-letter-...er-concerning-hydroxychloroquine-in-covid-19/
the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) presents a frequently updated table of studies that report https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w6p_HqRXCrW0_wYNK7m_zpQLbBVYcvVU/view results of treating COVID-19 with the anti-malaria drugs chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ, Plaquenil®).

To date, the total number of reported patients treated with HCQ, with or without zinc and the widely used antibiotic azithromycin, is 2,333, writes AAPS, in observational data from China, France, South Korea, Algeria, and the U.S.

Of these, 2,137 or 91.6 percent improved clinically.

There were 63 deaths, all but 11 in a single retrospective report from the Veterans Administration where the patients were severely ill.

The antiviral properties of these drugs have been studied since 2003. Particularly when combined with zinc, they hinder viral entry into cells and inhibit replication. They may also prevent overreaction by the immune system, which causes the cytokine storm responsible for much of the damage in severe cases, explains AAPS. HCQ is often very helpful in treating autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Additional benefits shown in some studies, AAPS states, is to decrease the number of days when a patient is contagious, reduce the need for ventilators, and shorten the time to clinical recovery.

Peer-reviewed studies published from January through April 20, 2020, https://docs.google.com/document/d/1545C_dJWMIAgqeLEsfo2U8Kq5WprDuARXrJl6N1aDjY/preview
provide clear and convincing evidence that HCQ may be beneficial in COVID-19, especially when used early, states AAPS. Unfortunately, although it is perfectly legal to prescribe drugs for new indications not on the label, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended that CQ and HCQ should be used for COVID-19 only in hospitalized patients in the setting of a clinical study if available. Most states are making it difficult for physicians to prescribe or pharmacists to dispense these medications.

As the letter to Gov. Ducey notes,

“Many nations, including Turkey and India, are protecting medical workers and contacts of infected persons prophylactically. According to worldometers.info, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ deaths per million persons from COVID-19 as of Apr 27 are 167 in the U.S., 33 in Turkey, and 0.6 in India.”

After Morocco and Algeria began using HCQ, a trend break and sharp reduction in their COVID-19 case fatality rate occurred.

Morocco and Algeria switched to hydroxychlooquine. Their Case Fatality Rate exhibit a "trend break" consistent with the introduction of an active therapeutic agent.

Vaccines and results of randomized double-blind controlled trials of new drugs are at best months away. But patients are dying now, while affordable, long-used drugs would be available except for government restrictions, AAPS states.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) https://aapsonline.org/
has represented physicians of all specialties in all states since 1943. The AAPS motto is omnia pro aegroto, meaning everything for the patient.

The statement would be meaningful if it came from the AMA, the American Medical Association. What is their position?

AAPS Letter Asking Gov. Ducey to Rescind Executive Order concerning hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19

April 27, 2020

The Honorable Doug Ducey
1700 West Washington St.
Phoenix, AZ 85007

Dear Governor Ducey:

This concerns your Executive Order forbidding prophylactic use of chloroquine (CQ) or hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) unless peer-reviewed evidence becomes available.

Attached and posted here (https://bit.ly/cqhcqresearch) is a summary of peer-reviewed evidence, indexed in PubMed, concerning the use of CQ and HCQ against coronavirus. We believe that there is clear and convincing evidence of benefit both pre-exposure and post-exposure.

In addition, Michael J. A. Robb, M.D., of Phoenix is compiling all reports as they come in. As of this date, the total number of reported patients treated with HCQ, with or without azithromycin and zinc, is 2,333. Of these, 2,137 or 91.6 percent improved clinically. There were 63 deaths, all but 11 in a single retrospective report from the Veterans Administration where the patients were severely ill.

Most of the data concerns use of HCQ for treatment, but one study included used the medication as prophylaxis with excellent results. Many nations, including Turkey and India, are protecting medical workers and contacts of infected persons prophylactically. According to worldometers.info, deaths per million persons from COVID-19 as of Apr 27 are 167 in the U.S., 33 in Turkey, and 0.6 in India.

Based on this evidence, we request that you rescind your Executive Orders impeding the use of CQ and HCQ and further order that administrative agencies not impose any requirements on the prescription of CQ, HCQ, azithromycin, or other drugs intended to treat or prevent coronavirus illness that do not apply equally to all approved medications that may be used off-label for any purpose.

Respectfully,

Michael J. A. Robb, M.D.
President, Arizona State Chapter of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons

Jane M. Orient, M.D.
Executive Director, Association of American Physicians and Surgeons

CC Speaker Rusty Bowers, Rep. Warren Petersen, Rep. Nancy Barto, Sen. Karen Fann, Sen. Rick Gray, and Sen. Kate Brophy-McGee

Impossible. If Trump says the sky is blue and the sun is yellow, lefties would say he's lying and get offended, and argue that anyone who believes it are morons.

It's all very comical.

But this isn't possible. Trump would say the sky is red and the sun is green.

It's worse than that. Notice that the headline says "Association of American Physicians" but the article says " Association of American Physicians and Surgeons".

The former is quite well respected. The latter is... not.

Again this is comical.

I wonder is "Fake" news only apply to things the alt right dont like ? This isnt fake I assume, but this whole organization is comical to the point it is "Fake News" by any standard.

First of all this organization does not represent the voice of physicians. They purposefully picked a name that is VERY similar to another organization that is widely accepted and members pay fees too for what purpose? That shows dishonesty. Its like Tiger King copying Carol Baskins org name.

I actually went to their website since I have NEVER heard of them before and their website is filled with political articles.... a physician association should NOT be political.

Third they take some evidence and then add on their opinion and exaggerate things 10 folds. They are not being systematic or scientific in any of their reporting. The stuff they are saying would not fly on a first year medical school's journal club website...

Fourth what kind of "national" physician and surgeon organization uses google docs to put out a release lol

So yes this is some "organization" but it is clearly a political one with doctors in it. Yes you can have alt right wing physicians but lets not put out things saying they reperesent the voice of all doctors and they are being neutral... that is "Fake News"

When PA is trying to convince us of his lunatic ideas, he routinely resorts to bullshit sites and think that he can fool us. Instead, he looks like the fool.

I am pretty sure he will come up with a few more of these loonie links before this thread is done.
