So sad. This breaks my heart. I'm guessing the accused is suffering from mental health issues. That explains it but doesn't excuse it. This is beyond cruel. We can no longer accept excuses for cruelty I love being Canadian, however, at times I wish we adopted that strict level of tolerance from other countries. Try doing this in the Middle East. You would be hung.
No merci. Hope the killer sits in a dark cell for a long time with only bread and water fed through a straw. Oh I forget, in the legal system we can't since that's considered cruel. Lets focus on
fixing and showing him the right path of success and happiness. Could you imagine if this was your mother or grandmother? Disgusting.
I would give up my pension to have five minutes with him.

Red House over yonder.
I was right there in that area recently. What you see is a large number of homeless and what appear to be mentally ill people. What you don't see are police on the sidewalks on Yonge St walking a beat interacting with residents or riding horses on the streets by the curbs. The police are all in police cars driving around oblivious to what is happening to pedestrians. What made New York safer again was police on the side walks. The city also needs to put non-uniformed police in subways and retail areas and on sidewalks. There seems to be no proactive approach - only reaction to these tragedies.

Toronto needs to go back to what worked. Meanwhile, protect yourself.
This is a great ap to use to increase your odds of staying safe:

Put in an intersection or address you frequent and it will tell you what has been happening within a 5 mile radius. There are certain unsafe spots to avoid. The sidewalk on Bloor St under the large Hudson's Bay Letters is a site of countless assaults and robberies. It is a long stretch of nothing but brick wall with no doors or windows. So many of these boarded up stores under construction downtown that are covered up from plain sight need a few plain clothes police lurking about to get back control of the sidewalks.

Both the visual presense of uniformed officers walking a beat and randomly stationed plain clothes police on foot without military style shaved heads as a tip off can stop the bad guys. Get out of the damn police cars and do some prevention instead of showing up after the crimes are finished.

The human race is continuously progressing towards enlightenment. History has proven this. Our track record has shown that relatively it is a slow process but relentless nonetheless. In the meantime be ready to protect yourself whichever way you feel necessary. You never know you may be the guy that solves our social problems. We sure don’t wanna lose ya. So be smart. Stay safe. And live free.

Y3s you have to show intent that he wanted to kill her VS shoving her out of the way. Itsfor sure aggravated assault but they may go up a charge later.
And yes, he has rights, e.g., to not get the shit beat out of him whilst being arrested and processed despite his deserving that.
A right to a fair trial.
And hopefully a right to be in prison for 20+ years.
