My Uncle (70) had both hips replaced and his knee was done last summer. He says that the knee was the more painful than the hips by far.

Just like spankingman he needed physio before and after to help him regain his range of motion. The doctor was starting to talk about manipulation as well. He says he pushed as hard as he could at physio to the point of feeling like passing out from the pain, but he managed to get close to the angle needed for now.

Now he is pretty happy. He walks without pain and is just a little stiff and slow.

Best of luck

Glad to hear he is happy with the results but the process to get there sounds painful. Did your uncle take anything to manage the pain?

Question: Do you know why he needed 2 hip and 1 knee replacements?

Do they know what caused the osteoarthritis, bad genetics, old age, wear and tear, etc.?

Did you try Glucosamine and Chondroitin?

With me I spent most of my working life on my feet, plus sports jogging walking eventually wear tear.I had 4 scopes 2 each knee over 20 years finally the total replacement last Jan. Glucosamine didn't work.Celebrex T-3 was my pain meds

Red House over yonder.
I think the right choice of surgeon is important. I knew a lady who lined up a famous doctor to do her knee surgery. She found out later the famous doc had started the proceedure but he let one of his student doctors finish. Later she found the angle of her knee was in error by 12 degrees. Especially for women the correct inward / outward angle is critical.

Not sure what pain meds he was taking. I know the first week or so he rented a cold therapy machine. You add ice to it and it circulates fluid through to help reduce the swelling. Saves having to change ice packs all the time.

I believe he needed the hips done as he was rubbing bone on bone and wearing it away. He would walk hunched at the waist to compensate. Now he walks fairly straight.
Not sure about the knee if compensating for his hips damaged his knee or or if it was going on it's own.

Sportsnet broadcast a program about Conner McDavid's devastating knee injury caused when he crashed into a goalpost in April 2019 and his amazing recovery.
