World Cup goes too far. A young lad committed suicide when his team, Brazil, lost. People went nuts during the games. I'll keep on passing. It's only a game.
I agree;its only a game. I can't believe that a young lad committed suicide. Afterall, the Germans were defeated twice at their national sport.
The Latin American countries seem to take it WAY to serious almost like a Religion IMHO. Suicide over a game! I'm all for National pride but to kill yourself!
No such thing as double overtime in Football... In a knockout game such as the Final if the score is tied at the end of the 90 mins regular time plus any stoppage time, extra time is played of two halves of 15 minutes regardless of how many goals may be scored during that time. After that if the score is still tied it goes to best of 5 penalties. If still tied, sudden death penalties.
So yes, Goetze was pretty fresh off the bench, he scored a goal from a great cross into the penalty area. Controlled it with his chest and hit the ball on the volley straight into the back of the net. The way the Brazuca ball has flown over the tournament there was probably a 75% chance that volley was going straight over the crossbar. Putting him into the game was a good move by Löw. It is all part of the tactics of a world class match, playing the right substitutes at the right times, after all you only get three of them
It was a fucking awesome event in almost every respect. From the crushing defeat of the home team, to the amazing quality of the event the host country delivered. Heros like James, Messi, Neymar, Kloser, Schwinestiger etc etc and villains like Juarez. Loved it. Best ever soccer tournament in the history of the world!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed one of the top world's sports events that spanned over a month. There were certainly some ugly incidents like the biting by Suarez and the kneeing of Neymar's back. But overall , it was a great and entertaining world cup; looking forward to 2018 !

Thanks, Dr, for explaining how the second of two fifteen minute extra time halves is not technically called double-overtime, which was not at all an apt description of that second part of an extra time that comes immediately after the first extra time.
It was the teasing by her friends that pressured her.

World Cup is just too much in my opinion. It's just a game not war.
I think this was the 6th or 7th World Cup I have followed closely on TV.
I think this was the best of them all... a great sporting event. I watched at least 50 of the matches, live, from beginning to end and at least part of all the others.
Though there were some low points, overall I saw some very exciting soccer and athleticism from some great young and upcoming stars and some clever efforts from several veterans.
For me, the high point was how TV technology allowed me to see so much of the details that one often misses in a match.
The low point is how that same technology showed me how poor the officiating was on so many occasions.

Brazilians put on a great tournament. Really sorry that they were not there in the final, but they were clearly not good enough. However I wasn't sorry to see it come to an end.
Hardly anything to chose between so many teams. So many games going to extra time or won by one goal. So often the losing team (including Argentina) had the better chances to win but soccer can be a cruel game as the better teams don't always win.
Sad to see so many of the European teams disappoint. I expected much more of France and Belgium, and of course Spain. England (as usual) were really disappointing as were Italy.
Have often read the argument that the bigger European club teams have seriously weakened national sides as up-coming home country players struggle to break through and when they do they are often in the minority in some of these club teams.
Also it's commonly said this side of the pond that the European teams will always be at a disadvantage in summer games, especially those not having a mid-winter break, as their players often end their season both physically and mentally exhausted with many carrying 'knocks and twinges' that can seriously affect their play in the summer tournaments. Suits the big European clubs though.

I've been following every single World Cup since 1990. So far, 2014 has been the best out of all of them.
I'm a big Football (or soccer) fan and I follow European Domestic leagues and UCL. Even though World Cup is not played as high of a level of UCL but the drama in it is crazy.
