I was wondering what the group opinion was on deposits for appointments.

Usually I am very cautious about this and NEVER do a deposit.
But for this one time, it was with a lady I had seen numerous times before...

I should have known better and it was against all my better judgement and of course, I have been burned with what I can only surmise as a scam.
After the transfer, there was one more message about parking and then radio silence...Too bad I had also already driven to the location given and then now was ghosted.

I've been hobbying for numerous year (lurking alot in TERB - occasionally I put up reports that are positive experiences)...but this was my first time burned and was wondering if this was a common occurrence?
I had been noticing more on LL that the ladies have been asking for deposits...but like I said, I typically avoid them. So this one came as a BIG shocker to me...

Anyhow, once bitten, twice shy...And maybe I take a break...But I wanted to see if anyone else had similar experiences?

Lots of people have reported similar experiences here

Thanks bobbiz...I'm just a bit miffed since it's supposedly a person I've seen a number of times...so would not have suspected to be scammed.
But you learn and you move on...so I will take my lumps on that...

I am glad this has been discussed. Hopefully not many others will fall prey to no shows after putting down a deposit.

There was recently a thread in the lobby about a similar thing. Unfortunately even SP you feel close to can turn, same as people in the general population.

What jumps out to me about your mishap was that it seemed you were almost at your appointment when she asked for the transfer. That she couldn't wait a few minutes for the money should have set off the alarms IMO. Regardless, sorry to hear about it. I was bitten in the past by a well known SP but it was more or less voluntary. We had such a history that the amount involved was inconsequential to me, I felt over the years I had gotten great VFM including that loss. Live and learn ..... once bitten, twice shy.

Sorry for your experience e26889 (get a real name please :)).
When you say "supposedly a person I've seen a number of times ...", are you saying you think it was somebody who was pretending to be your regular?

Are you comfortable in sharing who scammed you?
Please feel free to post a link to the offending provider (or bring it to the provider's attention if you think she was spoofed).

Best way to get your money's worth from the deposit is to name her here but I must ask, why would an escort who knows you ask you for a deposit? I would be insulted by this and walk away without even thinking twice.

Agreed. You should name the perpetrator. You were robbed just the same if she said she had to use the bathroom then ran out. Or had a faux angry boyfriend chase you out before sharing companionship.

Ha...the name was something I did a while back and didn't want to change. I don't like naming names because I don't know for sure 100% as someone could be using her name...but I have a sinking feeling it wasn't. But I can't be 100% so I've taken it as just a lesson learned. I've tried to contact the SP...but nothing but radio silence...

She had said she was working for new company so this was the new requirement...should have been a red flag for me. But I was thinking too much with the little head....I hardly ever post anything negative or name names - just not my thing.

I have done deposits maybe 6 times the past 3 years. So far no problems but I'm very picky on how I decide.
They were all higher end providers with "well designed" websites and have a positive social media presence.

Quite frankly, I just realized I have not seen any ladies who strictly advertises on LL only.

I've never had to give a deposit yet but I understand that with many no shows, lots of providers have been asking for it if they dont know you.

I can also assure you that other than a reputable agency, there are no companies here so saying she's working for a new company would be a big red flag.

Yup. Should have been a BIG flag. I just have never been taken advantage of by the SPs here in Ottawa. And I could totally understand their needs as there is no shows. You live, you learn I guess. And time to read the board more!

It does sound like a scam, I would never asked for a deposit if I already know the gentleman. In fact I've never even asked for one.

I also think you should give her name, not for revenge or anything but just to protect your peers.

Cheers,

Cheers,
With respect, the intuitive peers protect themselves by not advancing deposits. This thread echos the same sentiment throughout, 'don't give deposits'. I never have and never will, too many red flags. And I've only ever once cancelled with short notice. I broke a strut on my car from a pot hole car on my way to an appointment. But I saw the lady many times after that and always apologized.
I should have claimed the costs from the City!

Correction "vouch"

I am a big fan of collectives or associations like Ottawa Independent Companions (OIC) where the members meet s standard of professional service and can vouch for each other's services. OIC has some very hot SPs and some of the best-selling known in Ottawa.
