Anyone have any good stores or places where they buy their appliances?
I see a strip of them in the East End, but I can't seem to get past trusting those fast talking dudes telling me "it's a good deal" lol

Friend is looking to rent out her basement and needs a 24" convection oven, that's all the space she has. She wants to keep it under $1k.

Tasco or Appliance Canada - both reputaable and reasonable.

Amazon man. Why go to these stores when you can find tons of cheaper alternatives to branded ones? Walmart, Costco, Best Buy, Lowe's/RONA are a few other options.

As is Caplan's Appliances on Weston.

They've been around forever. Quality goods, competitive pricing and integrity.

My fridge died during a heat wave and they got a new one to me the next day, before everything in my freezer thawed.

That's where she went first, Amazon, then she called me for suggestions other than the obvious Brick, Leon's. 😂

I'd say 10-12 years ago.
I doubt you get that service today. My parents had to buy what was available for the size they needed. It took 5 days I think.

Yes 40 amps is standard for stoves, 30 amps for dryers.
Well according to her electrician the wiring she has now is only good for 30amps, which means either an old stove or a dryer were down there at some point. Maybe time to upgrade to a 40amp wired set up and open up her options.

Sometimes big box stores like Rona and Home Depot have scratch and dent items for sale at the front of the store.

Many people do not know you can bargain the price when buying large appliances and furniture. Most places will match the price of other store. They will still go for it if you lower the price by $50-100. A smaller profit is better than no profit.

On the matter of the convection oven. IMHO The best thing to do is get a counter unit. It can be stored away when not in use and the cleaning is like washing out a big bowl. Much lower in price than a floor unit or built in.

Does anyone have any experience with the magnetic induction stoves that seem to be the new thing?
I remember years ago seeing a documentary on the CN Tower that showed these stoves being used in it's elevated restaurant. Apparently, this was done for safety reasons as they weren't allowed to use conventional stoves.

Is that because the fire fighting equipment can't reach it?

We replaced a failing two-fuel range (gas top, electric oven) a couple of years ago and really like it. Super fast, super quick to respond to adjustment (like gas, but unlike radiant electric cooktops), super easy to clean and keep clean. Do research and get a reliable brand, not the cheapest you can find. FWIW, we got a Bosch. Negatives - not all pots are compatible. Make sure yours are, or you'll need to get a new set. Inexpensive compatible fry pans can hum. It doesn't bother me, but can bother some. When we got ours (mid COVID) there was aa big backlog in supply and we had to wait about 6 months. I don't know what current status is.

As to where to shop, consider if warranty coverage and service is important to you. Some stores offer excellent service, some zero and choices in between. Personally, good service is always important to me (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Re: Induction stove top.

It is because the top does not get hot, the pot gets hot. It can not ignite and material like paper, cloth or plastic.

You have a lot of control of the heat with induction cook tops. It can simmer or fry/boil quickly. How you know if your pots and pans are compatible is if magnates will stick to the cookware. Some cookware have a disk only on the bottom of the pot to make it induction compatible.

I believe they were worried about possible gas leaks and addressing them if that ever occured. Alot of extra work just for gas appliances, whereas you need electricity throughout the the tower anyway so it makes sense to use induction stoves.
