I have a question regarding my computer . I started getting a warning notification about my USB drawing to much energy and that they had been turned off for security reasons . The warnings started out once a minute then started to flood my screen. At this point the computer was not usable . I brought it back to Best Buy under warranty and they sent it away. A week later they called me to say I had liquid damage to my logic board and that it would be a total of 1400.00 to replace . I said at this point to send it back as I was not paying the same to fix it as I did the physical computer its self . In the mid term I purchased a sony vaio and had best buy back up that computer . My mac came back last night and I brought it home and it is working perfectly fine from what I can tell . My question is how is it so messed up prior to taking it in , then them saying the main operating feature of my computer is gone ( logic board ) why is it working fine now ? I want to sell it for parts to recover some of the money lost but I am beyond confused why it works better then ever now . They assured me they did no work on the computer as I poured liquid on it . I did not do this but good luck going against a company like best buy . Can someone please help me understand what the purpose of this logic board is ? I guess I just don't understand why at one point it needed to be replaced and works fine now ? Or do you think it will start to go again ?

Thanks
Hayley

motherboard (PC term) = Logic board (apple term). Logic board has all of key components (CPU, RAM, Controller chips, etc) and interfaces (USB ports, DVD drives, HDDs, SSDs) that other devices can connect. You can always take your MacBook to other computer stores that fixes Apple computers when the issue reoccurs.

Thank you I still don't understand however how it can be so damaged that they say it needs a 1400.00 repair and is now working fine and they did nothing to it ...

It's possible that there was some sort of liquid damage, but now that the moisture has dried up, it's working again.

However, my guess is that the diagnosis was wrong. (Especially since you are saying that it didn't happen). I also have a MacBook Pro and the card reader was acting up, so I reset the PRAM and that fixed the problem (although I've had to do it a few times.) Apple's solution was to replace the logic board and they quoted me $800. If it starts to act up again, try performing that (reset the PRAM) as this fixes a lot of otherwise unfixeable problems.

[h=4]Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
[/h]
  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

More recently, my track pad started to respond to my touch in very strange ways. After poking around various Mac Forums I found it was an uncommon problem, but one that wasn't easily fixed. One guy on the forum mentioned that he was so pissed at his uncooperative trackpad, that he basically pounded the sh!t out of it and "voila". I ended up doing the same thing, and it's worked fine for the past three months!

I love my Mac, and won't go back to a PC, but I will buy the extended warranty when I replace this one...

My experiences with BB and FS 'service' is never to trust them. Especially with their extended service contracts that they sell to suckers. As NiceShoes sugests, take the computer to a reputable authorised repair shop.

Ditto that!
I would NEVER take a PC to BB for repairs. Have had similar experiences dealing with BB and just don't trust them.
Last example; took in a 'suspect' power supply and BB said it was bad and wanted to sell me a new one. Another shop tested it and said it was fine.
BB is all about selling you stuff and repairs you don't need!
Find a reputable repair shop, which sadly is becoming harder to find.

This can be caused by a short in the USB port. The port is directly connected to the logic board so if there's a bad connection the entire logic board has to be replaced. Possibly the bad connection fixed itself (though moving the laptop around or whatever) or maybe it was just some dirt in the port.
