What's a good website or program that I can use to quickly and painlessly (without having to erase my hard drive) to remove viruses on my computer.

I'm using McAfee virus scan 8.0 and it is not doing the job it supposed to. The new computer viruses in the last few days have been a real annoying pain.

Help?!

First - get two tools that are a must for virus removal from any PC

1. a dos based anti-virus removal tool ( Symantec has several, Free)

2. Spybot

Start your system in DOS mode or if you are using 2000 or XP in safe mode (remember to turn off system restore in the latter two)

Run the virus checker as instructed command line prompts are required

Make sure you have an uptodate copy of your favorite antivirus defininations

Run the scan again in windows

run spybot...

I wonder if Costco sells Norton Anti-Virus?

I think I'll have to stop by after work - they should have the best price rather than downloading it.

While I'm at it, I can buy a 10 gallon container of mayonaisse.

The ease of usage goes to the guys from Symantec (Nortons), McAfee has to be set up properly and can be tricky.

If you want a good free antivirius try

www.grissoft.com

AVG

Lumix:

I would suggest you go to www.cnet.com and check out the product reviews for the various anti-virus and security programmes.

If you already have the Sasser worm, Symantec also has a removal tool. Fortunately, this variant doesn't seem to be particularly destructive, more of an annoyance.

McAfee is pretty much useless when it comes to virus protection, imho.

Costco is not cheaper than downloading the norton if you have had the norton virus protection all along then go to the norton site and download the update its taken out of your creditcard in american money but with the exchange you are still getting it at a good deal!

I purchased the "online subscription " of McAfee Anti-virus and Personal Firewall Plus. I am always up-to-date with the automatic updating and have yet to experience any virus or hacking problems.
