"Many men try to establish "outside" relationships with the women as a way to mask the crass nature of the connection."

Assuming this is your quote, it indicates to me that you are projecting your feelings of the hobby (it's crass) on others and that you feel they are not even aware what they think of the hobby and therefore subconsciously try to justify it by forming relationships.

Hey, I DO like this topic. I get to psychoanalyse without a licence.

Hey, you're the guy that jumped off a cliff when I was a kid, aren't you? I used to hate it when my mom used to tell me that story and ask if I would jump off a cliff too.

"Many men try to establish "outside" relationships with the women as a way to mask the crass nature of the connection."

I'd tend to agree. If you see an SP as a client and then leave, never to talk again, it seems cheap by most people's "morals". However, if the relationship continues, you're farking a friend, not an SP (per se).

or......................

that men not only have dicks but use them for thought controll as well. It does however mean that men establish outside connections partially to avoid commitment and sincerity.

I would agree that many "Many men try ... to mask the ... nature of the connection", but I would argue that the "nature of the connection" is not crass:

definition of crass on the Web:
(of persons) so unrefined as to be lacking in discrimination and sensibility
www.cogsci.princeton.edu/cgi-bin/webwn

to the contrary, I think many men who hobby are refined and extremely discriminating and sensible, if not fanatically discriminating and sensible, when choosing with whom to spend their hobby time. It is usually this fanatic discrimination that causes men to try "... to establish outside" relationships with the women ...", e.g.

... ok, maybe not so sensible ...

... or refined ...

... but discriminating, yes, no one can take "discriminating" away from us ! :)

Don't assume too much. And don't speak for others.

If you replace the "many" to "some", then I have no problem with your quote.

If you feel incompentent to pay for sex, then it's OK for you to feel small.

My take on the quote...

It's like the saying about mopeds and fat chicks. Riding a moped is fun but you wouldn't want your friends seeing you.

An "outside" relationship in my estimation is one where you keep the dealings of the relationship outside your circle of friends, associates, family etc. In terms of the crass part, this would lead me to believe that the relationship is purely physical. Its kind of like when you have a fuck buddy and you don't know anyone she knows and vice versa.

Probably wrong on this, but I don't know the context of the quote. Anyway it is interesting that many of you concluded that it had something to do with Hobbying, which it may.

others have said this...but, I belive it means that some men may try to legitimize their relationship with an SP by expanding it 'outside' of just the sex for money exchange. Perhaps they have a certain amount of guilt or feel that there is something 'wrong' with this exchange because of the conditioning we all recieve. Most people in this world seem to believe that the exchange of sex for money is morally 'wrong', and it's basically impossible not to internalize this on some level. So, men try to deepen the relationship, to absolve themselves of guilt and make the whole thing seem more valid. I don't think there's anything wrong with this...although it's sad that we are taught that this activity is wrong and immoral, wanting to expand the relationship shows that the man cares about the SPs beyond just the sex.

Oh and I don't believe the nature of the exchange/relationship is crass at all.
