about there
For me it was Hyper Olympics. My hands still ache when I think of the pounding that poor machine took when it was swim time or javelin throw time. Also Bag man, Donkey Kong and Moonraker got alot of coin out of me! I almost forgot about Ye aire Kung Fu ( <- spelling?)

Haha I remember Hyper Olympics too. That game was awesome!
The trick to avoiding the hand cramps was to use a pencil or pen as a seesaw leverage :D.
I probably spent the most money on Double Dragon. Knees to the the head in slomo, backwards elbow spams, bicycle kicks, instant spike deaths, chicks with whips, flying kicks to flying daggers, what more could you ask for? The fun my friends and I would have on this game would often leave us laffin in tears.
Most hyped game at that time was Dragon's Lair. Too bad the gameplay was so boring. I also remember Xevious being a very popular game at the time.

I know there are emmulators and what not but the ps2 has some great retro titles/collections

you can find Mappy! on one of the disks

Midway, Atari, Capcom, Williams Arcade, Intellivision, Taito, Namco have all released disks with retro games that include many of the games you guys have mentioned.

Intellivision Rocks!
I used to play Astrosmash for hours !!!

In terms of the old school games, my list ...

PacMan - followed by Ms PacMan and SuperPacMan
Stargate - of course Defender falls in but no Inviso button
Sinistar - I loved when one of those big guys would come on screen
Galaga - how many times again ust that guy go by ???
Joust - I used to do that trick and the teradactyls would come.
1942 - I liked the Green, Blue or Red shooting options.
Qbert - great when you are high
DigDug - still a fan
Centipede - killer game especially when that snake splits up.
Missile Command - the more basic but still a fav.

VBB

A good friend of mine has an original stand up TEMPEST...

I had to help him carry it up a set of stairs 10 years ago:eek:

All I can say is that they're damned solid!

Ditto!! played it to death at the old April Lanes Pool Hall.
April Lanes... I remember that place. I played Space Invaders there for the very first time when it came out. In the pool hall they later got Asteroids.

I play the classic games on PS2 or Nintendo SP. I even have the Atari Legends 1,2 and 3 on my Sony Ericsson K790a.

Atari Legends Volume 1 - Asteroids, Centipede, Combat
Atari Legends Volume 2 - Breakout, Lunar Lander, Missile Command
Atari Legends Volume 3 - Super Breakout, Asteroids Deluxe, Pong

Bubble Bobble and Adventure Island !!! Prince of Persia (1989) for PC.
These were my fav. childhood games, quite long to complete the whole game and very addictive.

ugh im so mad i don't have my NES anymore. but here's my list:
Blades of steel (best hockey game ever made, but nhl hitz for xbox is a close second)
Bubble bobble
Golden axe
Kirby
Little mermaid (give me a break im a girl)
Rainbow island ( i used to really like it but i played it last week, and i realized it kinda sucks but im still putting it on my list)

Wow! What a trip down memory lane. Played virtually all the games listed here to death, but my favourite of all time is not listed.
Scrambler.
Could walk into any arcade except one and immediately 10X the highest score easily (had to play a close second fiddle at university, damn pianist! :( )
Haven't seen it, or any mention of it, for at least 20 years.

It was through this thread that I got into MAME and ROM's.

Romnation.net rocks. I've been able to download my favourites, as well as others that I had totally forgotten (wonder boy, roadblasters, the list goes on).

Has anyone played ghouls n' ghosts completely through? I'm having a helluva time with it, although the wiki post for it makes me feel better. It describes the whole series as insanely difficult :)
