Probably not because they get enough pussy (at least that is my perception)...anyways my question is around plane top speeds. I tried to Google but to no avail - when on a flight I have seen posted actual speed north of 1050 kph on a 777 or 747 but according to the internet they have a top speed of about 950 kph. What is the explanation?

on the edge
Cars (with wheels touching the ground) need only deal with "groundspeed"

Airplanes flying (nothing touching the ground) need to consider both "airspeed" and "groundspeed".
They can be very different depending upon the speed and the direction of the wind.

The 1050 kph was the speed at the time which consisted of 850-900 kph of the actual jet engines and a tail wind pushing the plane faster.
In the opposite direction, a headwind into the plane would slow it down.
The engines still thrusting at 850-900 ,but the wind pushing back might slow it down to 700-750kph.

Got it - so then does the air speed or ground speed determine as to whether it will break the sound barrier (this question just came to mind)?

OP that’s pretty damn quick.
Musta been sprinting over the Ukraine.
Usually most economical airspeed is 500-550 knots.

You are correct.
I assumed he meant kilometers/hour ,hence when I posted 850-900 kph, it would be your 500-550 knots equivalent.
In any event, that 1100kph he asked about wasn't airspeed anyway. It had to be ground speed.

Paradise by the dashboard light.
Once my 747 was posted at 1100 kph going like a bat out hell - I wasn't sure if the wings were gonna fly off!

i feels ya! My 777-300ER has a headwind of 800km/h but if the plane is flying at 800km/h airspeed, it will still be flying at Mach 0.8 despite being at a standstill relative to the ground. Like shit on a stick without the stick
