I just happened to stumble onto Boingo wifi service since I was looking for something cheap for my iPod touch. http://www.boingo.com/

I was first looking at One Zone (a Boingo partner), but for a couple bucks more a month Boingo gives me other stuff like access at Starbucks locations, McDonald's in the US, a zillion airports worldwide... it goes on and on.

So I signed up and after a few days, I'm really impressed with it. Am I the only guy out there using this thing? Just curious why I'd never heard of this before if it's as good as it appears.

I've been using it with my Iphone and it works great most of the time. I've had a few problems with it when trying to connect in Brazilian airports, but have had no problems anywhere else I have tried to use it. Another application that works well with this is Truphone, an internet phone provider. With Boingo providing the wifi, you can use Truphone to call anywhere for 5 or 6 cents a minute with no roaming fees. Brilliant when you are stuck at an airport somewhere outside of Canada and need to make phone calls.

The map is majorly screwed up, but the locations listing (text) is pretty good. I'm actually typing this sitting next to a busy sidewalk in the financial district watching the girls go by on such a nice day.

Use Boingo and Skype together to eliminate needing a phone carrier on your BB or Iphone.
