Looking at my home entertainment stuff I noticed since I got a nice flat screen
I hate how the audio and video equipment stick out .
I would like to know if any one makes components that are smaller or cofigured so they do not stick out so far

this seems to be what's hot in home theatre surround at the CES right now... though, not quite the type the ysp800 is...

because it does not take high power to get a good clean sound that amplifies well for mid to higher frequencies, speakers need not be big. (think car audio tweeters), rather the larger speakers were needed solely for the lower frequency range, which now that sound is sent to a seperate subwoofer box.

i bought the harman/kardon htks 11 speaker system as it matches my flatscreen and the speakers are loud, clear and small. you can buy matching speaker stands that make the speakers look tall and slick (which defeats the smallness of them), mount on your walls, or do like I do and just place them appropriately around your room.

i don't necessarily recommend them... they are great but there are so many similar comparisons out there... go for the best bargain.

hey, Robio- is it a requirement that they are made in Canada?

There are some great small surround systems out there. Tannoy, psb. mirage, energy, just to name a few. But the cavet? some of these are great for home theatre but not so great for music, especially if you like to play some loud kick ass tunes.

What are you using for dvd, receiver etc? This can really make a difference when matching with speakers. Good luck getting Canadian made any of these though. Oh maybe thats what your implying:)

No links to anyting ? I do not really see anything in stores that doesn't stick out too deep

I almost want to hook it up to one of those early 1980's ghetto blasters that are almost as big as a 50" flat screen but just as deep. with a handle, forty D batteries and three cassette decks

Generally, when it comes to speakers, size matters. Even with a sub (and there are many nice sub choices), a speaker that actually sounds good, is at worse -3db at 80hz, and can hit high SPLs is not an easy thing to come by.

Some options you have:

o in wall speakers. The most subtle approach. You can usually paint the grilles your wall color and they will blend in nicely. Be prepared to cut into your drywall, and your stud locations will determine where the speaker goes. PSB makes some nice ones.

o flat panels meant for flat panel speakers. Many companies make them, ranging from Martin Logan to Klipsch. I think they are all kinda gross. You may like them.

o Monitor Audio on wall series (radius). A nice speaker with shallow depth. http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/range.php?range=4

o Quad Lite series. Great finishes, great sound. More of a box though. http://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/ranges.php?sector_id=2&range_id=4

o Some of the av123 products. Known in HT circles as value leaders. Once again, more boxes (but generally you need the enclosure size). http://www.av123.com/products_category.php?section=speakers

Given you do not mention a budget, hard to know where to take it.

Hum thank you but I do not care about the speakers I can stick them in the corners of the room but I do not like the Amp and dvd player size or shape

How many channels of amplification do you need?

Nice sleek, slimline design. Cube speakers are a bit bigger than a can of pop. Adequate, soft (but not booming) base from the sub woofer. Some audiophiles may find the speaker sound quality a bit pale in comparison to Infinity, Mission, JBL and the like. But I find them comparable to Mirage. I had them for years and only recently upgraded to a Yamaha 7.1 receiver and Infinity centre channel and front speakers, with a pair of Quest 2 ways and sub-woofer.

Bear in mind that the bulk of the sound comes from the centre channel and front speakers, so don't cut corners on these speakers. Get the best you can afford and you'll get the highest payback.
