Let me echo the comments 21pro. Best wishes for the weight loss program. I've tried a number of different programs and have probably lost 100's of pounds over the years. Unfortunately, I got into that typical yoyo dieter cycle. Lost 20, put on 30, lose 40, put on 60.

Last year, I hit 381 lbs. The final straw was a picture that a friend sent to me from a golf trip. I looked at the picture and probably saw myself for the first time. Two days later I joined Bernstein clinic and now 1 year later, weight 260 lbs. with about 30 more to go. Most of the effort was through diet but I did some cardio and weight training.

Good luck and keep it down.

The Bear went from a 36" waist down to a 33" waist in about 7 months. Lost about 15 lbs. A personal trainer did the trick. He really concentrated on heavy lower body exercises. Reduced the reps and increased the weights. Don't folllow any particular diet, but also don't eat junk foods. Good luck in your weight reduction.

21 pro, I wouldn't worry about the BMI...BMI is meant to be for the "average" person to acheive a healthy weight, for their repective height.....you cannot use the BMI if you weight train a lot. If you weight train a lot and do have a lot of muscle mass then you have to use things like body fat % to assess your health.

As well, you cannot lose 5-6 lbs/week, or at least if you do it will be water weight, and not fat, and you will gain it all back and more....you should aim for 1 to 2 lbs of wt loss maximum per week.

Just my 2 cents....good luck!

I dont know about that one... at that rate, you're either violently ill, on some silly fad diet or just flat out neglecting your body's needs; neither is good.

Not only is it unsafe you will also be losing more lean body mass than fat.

I wouldnt pass 1-2 pounds per week
You are right - I probably could have phrased that better... Any more then 5-8 a week, should be under medical supervsion... For unsupervised weight loss, 2 lbs a week is a good target.

I would love to get in on a weight loss thread where every one posted weekly updates as encouragement.

myself im around 5'10" and 200-210 pounds....and only 23...I have wanted to get into something like this for approximately a year however due to many factors put it off until recently.

However, after recently watching someone very close to me have a heart attack in their 40s i decided its time to step up and do this for real to prevent the same from happening to me.

Now i have set aside some money to join a gym and got a personal trainer on tuesday. And, I have started to eat MUCH healthier. similar to the the way fabulous has described.

what better time than RIGHT NOW to step up and take care of your body and health? i think this is a great idea but should be kept non-profit....and if there is a buy in, all proceeds should go to a charity of the winners choice.

I'll join in on this, if only for moral support.

I'm 5'10 and 240 lbs. My goal is to get back to a muscular 200 lbs. Fuck the Body Mass Index, with a chest and shoulders the size of mine to get to my 'optimal weight' would be just unhealthy.

I got started without you. I'm 5'10" and 301lbs. In September I was 352lbs. Can I count my loss from when I started? If so count me in :D

Actually, not true. Yes, one may lose a lot of weight in the first week or two that is mostly water. However, that cannot be sustained. I lost 120 lbs in 7 months.. an average of nearly 4 lbs. per week. The risk of rapid weight loss is eliminating protein not fat. When properly supervised, rapid weight loss is a viable option.
