What's ya got and what's your fav's?

Being a Corvette enthusiast, it's killing me seeing 3 die casts that I could of purchased at a local shop. (for between $30 - $50) I was shocked to see now that they are discontinued, they are being sold on Ebay for $100 US plus.

I never would of thought of die casts as being an investment.

I collect die casts, mostly Nascar stuff. Got a couple off Ebay. But I find with the exchange and shpping then tax etc. they become very expensive. Think the last one went for $60 US but ended up being almost $150 cdn. Have a bid on several right now. Am highest on one that is to expire in the next few hours but if it goes any higher will let it pass.

Have some others, mostly burago and a couple of Franklin Mint. (they are a little pricey too).

Maybe we should get together and show each other what we have , Bonnie.

Very Cool

I've found that Ebay isn't a true indicator of value for a collectable. But, it is what people are willing to spend at that particular moment.

Leen, that's really wise keeping original packaging. I wished I had the room for the boxes of the ones I've resold. It would of increased the desirability. I have 25 die casts in my possession right now, and I'm always trying to find different places to put them. LOL All are Vettes. I had a Viper GTS once, but my friends never let me hear the end of it. BTW, did you ever find a '70 AAR?

BTW - I loved that image of your Vette, and what a plate!

Thank you. That means a great deal to me. You wouldn't believe how difficult it was to obtain that plate.

Have you searched Ebay to find out what the ongoing values of your collection is? It might surprise you.

Today's chuckle....love the guys that build unrestored complete sets. Too bad it's not 1:18 scale.

I'm still looking for one of these cars for myself in a 1:1 scale as I had no luck last summer finding one.
At first I thought 1:1 was a typo....then I got it! LOL! That was a good one Kat!

Where's a good place to look for models? Is online better than bricks and mortar?

Another good source of die casts is Toy or Collectibles shows, and even flea markets. There are all kinds of dealers online, mostly from the states but a few from Canada too. As pointed out, it gets expensive bringing them in from the US, but I just got one on Ebay last night for about one-fifth of its regular price so it will be worthwhile.

I don't really collect for the investment aspect, especially my Nascar ones that are more of a fan thing, but I also have a number of Dinky toys and even though most are well played with and could only be rated as fair, some are still quite valuable. I joke that they are my retirement plan. Keeping the boxes that the cars cames in also increases their value. Wish I had the origional Dinky toy boxes.

Bonnie, another interesting site is:

I have a 1:1 mid-seventies muscle type car, that would probably fit into this junk yard class, but because of poor storage, is now unfortunately probably beyond restoration, even though it is a rarer model.
