The Evo 4g by Sprint provides what looks to be a great GPS service just wondering if any Canadian cell provider does this. The GPS on the phone in this video is something you get with Sprint in the U.S. Have trouble believing any Canadian wireless company would do something this useful. Could save about 2 bills by not buying a Garmin.

Google Maps for Android has done navigation for a while... You need to have a pretty good data plan though because it uses 3g along with the GPS to download the maps etc.
Also don't plan on using without it being plugged into a 12V charger in the car because it will use a lot of battery life.

Also, assume google is tracking your travel habits and addresses ;-).

Android has Google Maps Navigation.

If this uses the cellular network, wouldn't the data costs be prohibitive to run this thing for hours on end?

It doesn't use the data connection all the time.
It will use the data connection when u search, to provide traffic data, update the maps, and I believe it will use cell tower locations for tracking if there is a poor gps signal.

I rarely see the cell connection active when I use it.

There are several apps that you can download your maps if you don't want to use the data plan.... that said I find google maps works best on both the iPhone and iPad (vs other apps)

Bell has a GPS on the Blackberry. I used it while my Garmin was being repaired. $10/month for the Bell Service, which makes it fairly expensive. Did the job, but I was happy when the Garmin was returned.
