These situations arise from time to time. Would you ever break the law or company policy to save someone's life. For example, would you drive through the speed limit and/or a red light to rush a heart attack victim to the hospital? Some people will say never because, you might hit a schoolbus and kill 20 kids.

I've seen some really dangerous and dumb things on the road. The other I saw a car speed up to cross an intersection to beat the a speeding ambulance with horns blaring and lights flashing. Saner minds pulled their cars over towards the curb like sane people do.

It is NOT your job to pursue motor vehicles, shine spotlights into the drivers eyes and then block them and force them off the road.

In fact, it is is stupid, dangerous and illegal.

And your employer is right to warn you against such activities. The cops could have charged you for dangerous driving too.
l
Call 911, ask to speak to the OPP dispatcher, say you are (for example) eastbounnd in the colector lanes of HWY 401 just passing Warden and there is a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck driving dangerously and with broken chains and a small bulldozer about to fall off the trailer.

Stay on the phone if you want to update the positon etc but don't CREATE more danger than already exists.

NOT the same, at all.

Besides, even your histrionic example is flawed.

I've seen a cop pull over someone for not slowing down or pulling over due to an emergency vehicle racing to an incident. I pulled over like the other motorists.

Actually fuji...yeah it was/is my watch..my responsibility... when I'm working
my ass on the line anytime something happens within my patrol area that was a result of highway or road conditions that I was aware of...
In this case...I knew it was a hazard so I acted had I not and something happened I'm the one who has to go to court ...or an inquest and explain my part in it
I would assume your job description refers to road hazards, not criminal activity by other drivers.

I get the desire to help in the situation (and probably save yourself the work if he spilled his load) but how would your company (or the public) react if you caused an accident by trying to slow the guy down?

And stopping an accident that may or may not happen is no where near comparable to aiding someone in a medical emergency.

Well
apparently the S/O agrees with most of you...LOL
defensive driving is something we are hammered on ...course after course after course....be aware of your surroundings...always assume the other guy is the Asshole and so on....
I never flashed a spot light in the drivers eyes as someone suggested....a quick flip of the switch..is all it was..

I never said it was the smartest thing to do...but I've seen what type of carnage something like this COULD have caused...and I Wasnt gonna just sit back and turn my head....
We rolled him to a stop...and THAT was the main thing...

My issue was the company and their 2 faced attitude....but whatever .....its done..its in my file
I need to retire from this shit!

Oh and BTW...heads up out there folks cus this winter is gonna be REAL fun on the highways with what the ministry has instore:cool:
