Man finds surprise in frozen custard

WILMINGTON, N.C. - A man in North Carolina took a mouthful of frozen chocolate custard and found himself sucking on a piece of someone`s finger.

Clarence Stowers picked up a pint of the dessert on Sunday night at Kohl`s Frozen Custard in Wilmington, N.C.

When he got home, he scooped up a spoonful and began sucking on the finger, which he said he initially thought was candy.

Stowers told the Wilmington television station WWAY that he spat the piece out but still couldn`t tell what it was so he took it into the kitchen, rinsed it off and "just started screaming."

"I`m sick at my stomach, I just can`t get that taste out of my mouth," the television station WECT reported him as saying.

The owner of the custard shop, Craig Thomas, confirmed that an employee had lost part of a finger in a custard-dispensing machine.

As some employees hurried to help the injured worker, a drive-through window attendant who didn`t know about the accident scooped some of the custard into a pint and sold it.

State officials sanitized the equipment involved in the accident on Monday.

The Wendy's one was a scam (the woman was arrested for fraud), but this one is real. It's very disgusting. Just imagine all the nasty crap that's not detectable that's in our fast food.

I'm sure he will be amply compensated for his terrible experience. I'd probably end up starving from fear of finding a finger in my food after this incident.

oh and as sick as it my sound the FDA has certain guidlines pertaining to the amount of foreign objects (mainly bugs) allowed within certain food. I believe it's 6 spider legs per carton of orange juice. NEways it's something like that. Gross but very true. Can't stop everything from getting into our food I guess.

Actually...there is nothing wrong with eating spiders. As protiens go I personally find the idea of bugs (some bugs) much less disturbing than a good steak. ( I am not a vegetarian-I just don't like to think to much about the implications of eating meat ie. what I am actually eating.) Much of what we find 'disgusting' is just conditioning. That being said-an unaccounted for finger is disgusting. Unless you come from, say Borneo, then it would be a bonus.

i agree there is nothing wrong but I have a mild case of arachnophobia the the mere thought eeks me totally. Not proud to say but I've never been able to bring myself to crush a spider with my shoe for fear of touching it... Frogs are still my biggest fear but that's another story altogether, Can't believe I even just said the F-word, just got goosebumps

Seriously, I am not trying to talk you out of you fear, but try to imagine how the spider might feel. You are (hopefully) much bigger than her.
